Hi guys, FYI - the old settings are history now. (UI 460)

For me this just makes a very poor, unintuitive UI even worse, which isn't made any better because a secret 'geek:area' is still there for those in the know.

When your average user will be totally unaware of it, so they are completely in the dark.

If the settings in the 'geek:area' are really worthy of being accessible, then surely they should be in the main UI.

Better still a complete revamp of this UI is required.
Totally agree with you on a new or the re-use of an older simpler UI.
The geek interface is still there in the free version for now.

Sorry Dave, but I disagree. Most are really expert settings - nothing for the average user to deal with.

That doesn't change the fact the the UI is very hard to navigate and very confusing.

Well, I got used to it meanwhile... Nevertheless, my favorite UI was V7, just for the record. ;)

We are talking about the use of the UI by the average user. For them it's very confusing and hard to find anything.

Can't confirm that, our users here have no issues navigating the main UI. But your mileage may vary.

Well I also have to disagree.

There were many options in the old settings that should be in the main UI interface.  But for me the worst crime is the geek:area how does that solve anything when it so big a bloody secret, WHY.

A secret/hidden area is a much use a an ash tray on a motorbike, how is one to find out about this bloody secret handshake area if there is nothing in the main UI about it.  Even if you were to try using the search function you actually have to know the secret search term (or it will return nothing), bloody marvellous (NOT).

Why not have it referenced in the Main UI and change the bloody name, say 'Advanced Configuration' with a suitable warning this could seriously impact protection, do so at your own risk.  Suggest that before using this 'Advanced Configuration' backup your existing settings so they can be restored if required.  Stop treating users like children.

One of the major things that brought me to avast (almost 16 years ago) was its user configurability and what I felt was its look and an intuitive user interface.  Since these new style UI, a follow on from the Windows Tile (new) style that every one and their friends followed slavishly, intuitive layouts have gone down the toilet.

Hell it is the users computer, let them have control over the programs they run and there configurability (at their own risk).

WOW, got this off my chest and shows just how much I dislike this interface.

I probably spend more time talking face to face to Avast users than any one else since
I've done in person and remote presentations for over 10 years.

When I state that the UI is confusing, it's because that's what I hear quite often.
Many times after a presentation, I'll have users around me while we go through some of the basic
settings and how to get to those settings.
If you don't know the basics of opening the UI selecting Menu then Settings, you can't really find the settings.
Using a right click on the system tray icon is also not known by most users.
I could probably start doing classes on getting to the Avast settings. :)

i really hate this new GUI. i wish Avast come back to the old settings because it was very easy to use and there was a lot of tweaks to play with. they took a bad decision to change the settings.

I think there have been valid points by all.
I personally agree that I also have gotten used to and effective at finding anything in the UI BUT that's I believe because I've used Avast also a very long time and have adapted to every UI change over the years
I also do see and agree with, that the layout of the GUI over the past few Avast versions IF I was a new user with limited PC knowledge and insight, could be viewed as 'not intuitive' or easy to navigate>Lots of hidden stuff behind many options(areas).
I also have to agree with Asyn and have mentioned times before, that Version 7 UI is also my favorite.
Just my 2 cents worth :)

Changes always happen.
Sometimes they are just more drastic than at other times.

Agreed, that should work and (at the same time) make users aware of GA.
