my program auto updated and now the firewall isn't working, it says its on but windows 10 says its using its own firewall

If you have a couple of times and the issue doesn't go away you could try a 'Repair' of your avast installation.
In the UI> Go to Menu- Settings-Troubleshooting- Scroll and click "Repair App"

Avast updated on my computer even though I have it set to just notify me of updates. Also the 3rd party data sharing options have been ticked again after this update even though they weren't before. This has happened many times now and with all the data sharing problems with Avast the last month they really aren't doing themselves any favours.
Avast Free 20.3.2405 - Comodo 12.2.2.7036 Firewall with D+ - Winpatrol Free.
On demand - MBAM - Super Antispyware.
Windows 10 64bit - 16GB Ram.

I noticed that after the update, on Bank Mode. The mouse is either moving itself or delay to move.

Old settings was removed, so how can i now delete test history?
Share app-usage data with Avast so we may offer you 3rd party products means if i untick it I no longer get ad popups?

Good think about this release is Avast signature in email client is disabled by default. Also will be nice if PUP detection will be ASK as default not disabled. Anyway if i compare one year old 19.1 with current 20.1 nothing noticeable changed, new version usually fix bugs from previous version while new version causes new bugs and so on. Neverending story. At least new version after 5 month is ok. I never understand why was new version released each month without deep testing.

Noticed the same thing myself, isn't the first time it has happened where they have added in additional privacy options and turned them on by default.
I have no idea how easy it is to have them off by default if every other privacy option was already off but it sucks having to check up on these things.

I actually only just learned about all this data selling stuff today also, I was totally in the dark. Luckily I don't use the browser extensions or anything on any machine also.

I really hope this version does reduce the pop-ups, I really don't need to be explaining to my older family members that it's OK and they don't need to worry about this and that.

Hello! This is my first post here and I’m wondering if anybody is having this problem. I’ve been an Avast user since 2008 and I recently upgraded from Win 7 Ultimate SP1 32 bit to Win 10 Pro 32bit build 1903 after Avast upgraded to this latest version 20.1.2397 from the previous version, you can’t see the interface or controls such as the settings box, in another words you can not see nothing period on the screen it’s just blank even by clicking and trying to open the interface box which means there’s no way to adjust anything, but I know it’s working because you can see the icon in the lower hand tray, and it by all means say’s it’s working. I tried everything to try to fix it, but nothing worked. Good thing I had my computer backed up! If this is a problem, I sure hope it can be fixed! In all of these years of use, this my very first issue with Avast.
Thanks.

Hi, so finally new Avast version 20.1 is here

Updated all three of my computers, no problems so far.

After four months I can create USB Rescue Media again.  They didn't take as long as they used to either.

I'm puzzled: my Windows 10 system running Avast free seems to have updated to 20.1 despite my setting the update option in 19.8 as "Ask when an update is available". Even stranger, I didn't notice it doing the update; I think it must have been picked up when I rebooted for other reasons. Well, I was going to update anyhow.....
Another user reported the same thing. It looks like in some cases update settings are not honored.

No Auto Update here, but I have Program Updates set to Manual.  Plus I didn't even let it update to 19.9, so that is what it is currently complaining about, not 20.1.

Yet another looking over my shoulder spammie ad in the UI.

OK, I also got auto-updated despite "Ask when an update is available" being selected.

However, I also avoided restarting and while still running 19.7:

1. Saved my Avast settings.

2. Disabled my network interface so 20.0 would not be able phone home.

3. Then let Avast restart.

4. (I figured it was better to let the 20.0 update complete before uninstalling; more of a chance for the uninstaller to get confused by the in-between state of affairs.)

5. Uninstalled Avast.

6. Reinstalled 19.7 with the offline installer.  [19.7.2388 (build 19.7.4674.0)]

7. Restored my Avast settings from the save file.

8. Changed "Ask when an update is available" to "Manual Update."

9. (There are some more restarts in this process.)

10. Reenabled my network interface.

11. Awhile later Avast requested a Restart.

12. After the restart, the build number changed: 19.7.2388 (build 19.7.4674.552).  (I think this is still a program update disobeying my selection.)

13. So far, this seems to be holding off 20.0.

I'm not happy that I don't have the "old settings" either.
There was the notion of friends in the firewall, update settings , software updater reset,...., that we don't even find in the "GEEK:AREA" menu.
Just for note, database reset for software updater is available in the geek:area. Some other settings (ex. log all blocked packets) are also available there.

My bad, sorry, I didn't look hard enough in that egg, especially as the menu is still in English.
Having said that, I just saw with the link that the explanations are now translated, they were not translated some time ago.
Also, I will edit the toolbox in the French session to replace the "old settings" part by the hidden menu. It's quite often that users were pointed to "old settings".
Thanks Asyn & NON
