Windows is evolving beyond the use for CCleaner for Windows
« on: March 02, 2020, 03:44:45 PM »
L.S.

I was alterted to the following news and controversy around a program and tool many of us know about and use themselves.

Read: https://helpdeskgeek.com/free-tools-review/why-you-shouldnt-download-ccleaner-for-windows-anymore/

An alternative for use on Windows rather than to use CCleaner:
https://www.howtogeek.com/361112/heres-what-you-should-use-instead-of-ccleaner/

Any comments, does all this stem from CCleaner bashing or is there any substantial ground for such alerts?

I don't touch it anymore, supposed to clear rubbish yet was filled with upgrade notices and Google Chrome ads ::) two inside software hacks finished it off for me, it hasn't been updated in four and a half months either.

If others wish a similar tool I usually install Privacy Eraser for them though for my own systems Win 10 is capable of clearing junk itself.

Snap, I look after my own rubbish.

Though I too have the portable version Privacy Eraser 64bit, though I can't recall the last time I used it.

MBAM-extension now gives the following rep alert for the download:
We strongly recommend you do not download this file. (ccsetup564.exe)
File blocked: blob:hxtps://obfuscator.io/9d519935-84da-4447-87f7-67a5613d4525

Why didn't anyone discuss such a reputation alert here for CCleaner?

You should ask Avast that question.... otherwise I don't think they're paying any attention at the moment.

Hi SpeedyPC,

How are you doing, my good friend, hope you're feeling better than your avatar shows, :o
cause he looks miserable, even worse than Smeigel normally does :o  ;)

But back on-topic. That is why I did not bother to ask 'em.
Just reported so every user can decide for themselves what to do.
They wrote that they were solving problems on a last update.
Have seen no glitches there now, as it is mainly an AVG driven vehicle now
(comes bundled with that proggie if you choose to do so).

@Damien,
when you read the comments in this article, https://www.howtogeek.com/361112/heres-what-you-should-use-instead-of-ccleaner/#comments
You'll find most defending the usefulness of Ccleaner and the reasons given to stop using it not really having any merit.
Yes there are other tools or, there are functions already built into windows that will do some of the functions.
Cceaner with it's default settings is still the fastest and safest way to clean up Crap.
After all, it was originally called Crap Cleaner when I first started using this tool.
It also doesn't have to be installed in order to run it when ever you decide to do a cleanup, simply use the portable version.

 From the article, "The popular system-cleaning tool now always runs in the background, nagging you and reporting anonymous data back to the company’s servers. "

 This is a pretty good reason to stop using it.

If you use the portable version much of this is mitigated.

@bob3160,

Have updated to the latest version, only stopped the tool as a hidden icon in the background
and use it as an on-demand crap cleaner now once in a while.

Check your settings.

If you don't want it to run in the background, Simply disable Smart Cleaning
