Chrome: Managed by your organisation (Avast 20.2.2401)

well guys, just turn off the web shield (under= protections=core shields)  and (maybe not necessary) turned off  anti-spam (under=privecy). i did that and chrome become normal as it should be. i am using version 20.2.2401 (build 20.2.5130.570) full version 1 year.

WebShield is probably your  most important protection.
80% of all infections come directly via the web.
It's your computer but certainly not something I would do.

I totally agree with bob3160, Web shield is the most important protection, I remember when I visited an (empty or white page) website was saying that they moved to a new other site and there was a big weird button that was supposed to direct me to the new site, I had a feeling that there was something weird with the button or could be dangerous, because most of the page was white and there was only a message about new site and a button to click on.
But I didn't listen to my feeling, I clicked on the button then suddenly web shield alerted me or stopped me from accessing the link. I felt like I got lucky that I had that web shield on.

Seriously, dear knobs from Avast, if you are reading this - you need to inform users of your dumb updates! First, I couldn't save files as they all started coming up as read only, now this nonsense! Wtf!???

I am the developer responsible for this side-effect and I am sorry for this experience. Let me explain, what we did in the version 20.2 that causes this message.

Background:
There is a network protocol currently in development called QUIC. As it is in the active development by Google and others, there are some versions of this protocol that we cannot check properly for malicious traffic.
Therefore, we decided to block these protocol versions and the way how we do it is using Chrome Policy setting (which is, according to Google, the preferred way to do it).

OK, I get this, I really do but here is the burn. There is a matter of trust between the users and by the way I am a paid user, and the antivirus company they choose. Avast lost a huge amount of trust when they did this without notifying their users. At no point did Avast inform its users that they had written into their code what might be seen as a hijack of Chrome. When you do a Google search of "Why is my Chrome being managed by an organization" the majority of the search results inform you that your computer has been infected with a virus. I reset Chrome because I was afraid I was infected, I went through several hours of worry and fear because this is my personal computer, not part of an organization and I use my computer to bank online, to but things with credit cards, and to pay my bills. I was scared to death for several hours that maybe I had a data breach, I deleted recent programs that I downloaded, worried about my bank accounts and thought about canceling my credit cards.

The Bottom Line Is If You Are Going To Do This TELL US so we don't soil our drawers worrying might be victims of cyber crime!!

I agree with Andrew. I did not know the problem was avast and ran multiple things like deleting registry entry, running a script found in google forum posted by Google staff among others. After i googled "chrome policy quicallowed" I found it was possibly due to Avast. Send us an email at least with headsup.

Regardless of this, I am thankful to find the staff answering the questions in a very transparent manner. I am fine with this issue for now since I understand the only other way is to make the machine susceptible to malware hosted on QUIC servers if we disable it.

Chrome Solution:

Here is what I did to have safe browsing AND remove the "Managed By Your Organization" message.

In Chrome, go to chrome://flags and search for QUIC ... set "Experimental QUIC protocol" to Disabled. Now Chrome is not using QUIC protocol, so it is safe to disable QUIC scanning in Avast.

Go to Menu > Settings > Protection > Core Shields > Configure shield settings > Web Shield   and uncheck "Enable QUIC/http3 scanning"


I hope AVAST is listening to users, and will not introduce something like again this without some messaging or opt-in choice. Like others, I spent a fair amount of time trying to figure out why my browser was suddenly "managed" by another party, worrying I was hacked.  This shows a lack of consideration for your users.

So I found a solution to this if you don't want it appearing. Opening avast antivirus on your computer, selecting the top right menu bar, then select settings, after that select protection, select core shields, then scroll down to "configure shield settings". after that select web shield and then disable the enabled "Enable QUIC/HTTP3 scanning". then close avast, and restart your browser, the "managed by your organisation should disappear as that is what i did to make it disappear from my browser. sadly this does remove a minor protection from your browser but gives you extra privacy.

Interestingly enough, disabling QUIC/http3 scanning prevents me from visiting this forum. Chrome no longer loads the site if I disable it. With it re-enabled I can come back again... It would seem that I can't load this site with QUIC enabled.

Just because it's chromium based it doesn't mean it's the same as chrome, almost all those other chromium browsers are better than chrome.
It's not news that the new Edge is chromium based, but still a very different browser. Just test it or watch reviews, it uses less resources, way better optimized, those are just facts.
