New beta version 20.3.2403
« on: April 16, 2020, 02:47:28 PM »
Hi everyone,

I`m glad to announce that new beta version is ready - 20.3.2403 (build 20.3.5164).

What is new
  • AV setup does not offer Google Toolbar installation anymore
  • Rescue disk VPS can be updated now

What was fixed
  • Incorrect marketing content (related to installation instead of update) was displayed after program update in some cases
  • Unsupported localizations are removed during edition upgrade to OMNI edition since it currently supports only ENG localization
  • Getting licenses from an account, when one account logs out and another account logs in
  • Reduced number of retries for getting licenses from the server in case something fails
  • Ability to pay via Paypal
  • Issues with Firewall not running after the update from previous versions
  • Problem with repeated Ask dialogs from Firewall when "Ask" is set as the firewall policy

Known issues
  • A user might get logged out from Omni application
  • Edition upgrade (where product build is not changed) requires OS restart which is bug for 20.3 AV version
  • There might be a problem (frozen system) during uninstallation of Antivirus client with Firewall on Windows 7 operating system
  • The last firewall rule does not work (can be the last default or the last one user edited/created)
  • Enabling new DNS over HTTP feature in RealSite component can cause connectivity issues

Who can we update vps in Rescue disk ? its on the rescue disk only or there is another way?

It is an option when you boot to rescue disk.

Just noticing, I don't remember seeing this service consuming this kind of Memory.
Avast Antivirus Engine Server: 395mb when idle.
Are others seeing the same ???

Already internally fixed under - AV-22408

Nope, it's using around 30 MB here.

Thanks for you input Asyn
Seems I might have an issue as the Screenshot below shows around 800mb RAM consumed by the 2 Avast services (Avast Service and Engine Server) and 1 GB of RAM when a Browser is open!  :o
This should probably be looked at.
I thought there was excessive RAM use now for a couple of weeks. :-\

@SpeedyPC
I've been running the beta for a couple of years now on the "Beta Channel"  and always update via the UI auto update. Have not tried a Clean Install as yet.

Will do a clean install later today and report back

A clean install has resolved the issue.
Someway my beta installation got corrupted. An update through the beta channel (the only way I update my beta installations).
Much less/Normal RAM used now between Avast Service and Engine Server! Around 180mb. :D

I always do a clean installed, IF, something plays up when using Avast AV, even the repair option doesn't resolve the issue.

Don't forget to backup your Avast settings regularly  ;)

@hectic-mmv

Hi, editing posts is probably not the best way to answer questions, I'd suggest to use the quote option next time. ;)

Hi schmidthouse and thank you for your report. If it is resolved in AV-22408 (I guess somebody confirmed it to you already) then it is ok. If not and if you encounter such problem again, it would be good to get logs and probably dump of the Avast processes/services consuming such ammount of memory for further analysis.

Logs can be found here:
c:\ProgramData\Avast Software\Avast\log\

Dump can be tricky, but dump of a service can be done via:
- disabling self defense of the AV in the advanced settings (troubleshooting area)
- executing the following command from command prompt (admin rights required): sc control "avast! Antivirus" 254

Thanks petr for you reply :)

I only update my beta installation via beta channel so that's why I found it unusual (as this is a new development for my installation) that so much RAM would be suddenly consumed consistently.
If for some reason it does develop again I will collect logs/data and forward to you.
My version of Premium is 20.3.2403 (Build 20.3.5164.561) UI 1.0.507
