Rescue disk doesn't run because of missing aswShell.exe

I created a USB rescue disk last night through the Avast Free Antivirus interface by clicking on Create on USB. Downloading the files took forever on my extremely slow mobile connection but eventually showed success. However, when I tried to boot up an infected computer using the disk, the program barely started and said "Unable to launch main Avast Rescue Disk Shell, aswShell.exe!". I tried using the same USB drive on another computer with the same result, then used another USB drive and still with the same result. Browsing through the forums, I see that somebody else had already reported the same problem on April 12 but writing in French on an English-language forum (https://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=189688.msg1542516#msg1542516), so his message might have gone unnoticed.

I'm using Avast Free Antivirus 20.2.2401, version 20.2.5130.570, on 64-bit Windows 8.1, with the latest virus definitions (200418-0). My user interface and system language is French if it makes any difference. The rescue disk's error message was in English in any case.

If fix is promised in v20.3, is it in the 20.3 Beta?
If it is, has it been tested to be working properly by the Beta testers yet?

Note I found USB creation hung a few mins at 86%, but it did finish eventually.
I have not yet been able to boot the Rescue Disk USB created from this version.

I just tried with 20.4.2410 (build 20.4.5312.577) which still has this problem.  Note that this problem dates back to at least 2016.  It would seem that they simply don't care.  The Avira boot disk is the only one that I have found thus far that will work from a Ventoy boot drive.

Hi rmwhitworth, as bob mentioned in previous comment, please try latest BETA 20.5 where the major issues with RCD were fixed and let us know the result. Thank you!

I tried Beta 20.5 and it does what my laptop does - creates a totally non-bootable USB.  There is no UEFI boot option only Legacy.

Just for grins I made a Rescue DVD.  This actually boots but doesn't seem to be able to do anything.  It could not update and it would not scan the SSD.  It just says that the 'Scan has failed'.

Hi rmwhitworth, thank you for the information. The Rescue CD should be created as legacy as well as UEFI - we will doublecheck and get back to you.
