Windows 7 BSOD after 20.2.2401 update
« on: April 22, 2020, 01:34:26 AM »
Hello!
My Windows 7 laptop will no longer boot without throwing a BSOD.

I could start on Safe mode (the only functioning mode right now) so I thought about trying a System Restore. The previous Automatic Restore Point was 5 days ago, and the only program involved (automatically listed) was Avast. I double-checked in Programs and Features and there it was Avast 20.2.2401 listed as the latest installed program (I guess updates count as a regular installation for timestamp purposes).

So I went on with the Restoring process and it went well. W7 boot in regular mode without problem and Avast is listed with version 20.1... but! I cannot disable Avast Application updates (it says I have to restart as soon as possible and the panel is not shown). So if I try a restart (which I did), I get the same BSOD back again. Avast is updating again at some point and taking things to the start.

I tried uninstalling Avast with the official tool after the restoring but it didn't work. I guess the problem is that I let Windows boot in normal mode once and I started the uninstallation from there. So probably it was too late to undo the critical changes (even for the uninstall utility).

What should I do?
I was thinking about booting in Safe mode right after the Restoring process makes the reboot and then uninstalling Avast from there. I guess in safe mode the automatic updating is not lauched.

Has anyone a better idea on how to solve this and (if possible) keep Avast?

Thanks!

Hi jmtorresluc,
we would need a memory.dmp to say what went wrong. Common location is:  C:\Windows\memory.dmp

Compress the dump file as BSOD_jmtorresluc_4_2020.zip and upload it according
https://support.avast.com/en-eu/article/FTP-file-upload
to avast ftp server.
Have a nice day !

Looks like you have same problem as I, several days ago. BSOD caused by aswNetHub.sys? ..now, i have installed avast WITHOUT ANY network services (firewall, browser security, mail etc.)....basic protection...but protection....The support says that patch will be released at next update...
