Why I am removing my paid for Avast products.
« on: April 23, 2020, 02:36:06 AM »
This morning when I started my computer Chrome browser was running with a promo message asking me to make Chrome into my preferred browser. It is a terrible memory hog, so I would never use it by default. Only when testing something.

I didn't remember starting Chrome.

Looking more carefully the URL was
https://www.avast.com/lp-chrome-awake-0

So a program that is supposed to prevent unwanted actions on my computer started up a program without my permission.

I have put up with the nag screens to upgrade my paid for premium Avast products. Messages telling me that everyone knows I'm in Quezon City Philippines unless I buy the Avast VPN.

Quezon city is about an hour and a half away, but the nag screen doesn't seem to realise that.

So I have tolerated the nags.

But opening programs without my permission - avast is going and being replaced.

I will find another good solution that requires much less interaction. And doesn't mess around with my programs without my permission.

Sincerely

Michael.
