Background:

A few hours ago I uninstalled Avast using the method found in the application itself. This was successful, I was attempting to troubleshoot some connectivity to a website but that is beside the point.

Problem:

  • ~20-25 minutes ago I was alerted of a curl attempt from mac-hub-u-avcdn.net.
  • I looked up avcdn.net and it connects to avast.
  • This was attempting a TCP connection from either 23.62.236.184, or 23.62.236.187.
  • Looking at activity monitor I see two AvastHub processes running from launchagent.
  • I looked for a file and one appears under the Application Support folder.
  • This should be uninstalled when Avast is uninstalled.

Solution:

When the user utilizes the avast uninstall function described here: https://support.avast.com/en-eu/article/Uninstall-Mac-Security
  • They should be instructed to then remove any extra data or applications that were installed using the Avast installer.
  • Avast should be transparent about what is being uninstalled, and what is not being uninstalled from the original installation packet (or subsequent updates) when the user is uninstalling.

Additional folders found:

  • ~/Library/Group Containers/*.group.com.avast.osx
  • ~/Library/Application Support/AvastHUB
  • ~/Library/StagedExtensions/Applications/Avast.app (this is the only file in this folder) added 9/20/19

Looking around in the forum there is a reply stating that Avast Hub should self-delete but it's been on my computer since 2019 (this is after I installed Avast on this device).

The most recent file on search is on 3/30/20(a crash report - which I did not list above).

Hello,
Hub automatically uninstalls few hours after the last Avast app uninstalls.
Kind regards,

Sorry, Ondrej, incorrect.

See screenshot, hub is not automatically removing everything, and the uninstaller is not assisting in this at all. This is a problem.

EDIT: you have an image link function but you block image links?

(just remove the spaces to get the link)

Last modified date is the column displayed. The only reason "today" is displayed is because I opened the containing folder (highlighted). This hub folder has been in my computer since 2017. Can you explain why it not only didn't remove itself, but it also evaded the uninstaller that was used?

I mean look at this, since I uninstalled Avast has attempted 72 CURL ACTIONS? That's absurd.

Hello,
In your screenshot you are showing Adobe-Hub-App, which is some Adobe thing, it has nothing in common with AvastHUB.
Kind regards,

ddrt, are there any other Avast apps still installed? The AvastHUB is shared component which will remain installed if there is Avast Security, Cleanup, SecureLine VPN.
Quality is also a feature.
