It's a known issue that has already been acknowledged by Avast.

This is the second updated version where immediately after update CPU usage spikes as well as RAM usage. Both times I've had to use the cleaner and install again and then everything seems normal.

I really hope this isn't turning into something common. I don't want to do this every time there's an update.

Hi, it should help to reboot twice after an update.

I reinstalled Avast Premium Security and noted that the problem is reported here
https://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=233940.msg1545537#msg1545537
has been solved.
However, I noticed that the Password Protection module, excluded in the custom installation, was installed instead. The on / off button of the functionality obviously does not work. I tried to install Password Protection and then to uninstall it but to no avail and it is still there.
As soon as the antivirus was installed, moreover, I was able, in Settings / Troubleshooting, to access the old Settings menu present in previous versions of Avast (last item below). After a few hours that item, which recalled the old menu, is no longer available. Maybe after some updates? Can I restore it?
Thanks

same here after i update my avast to its latest version, i decided to uninstall this password protection/webcam shield thru "troubleshooting menu"after doing that, restarted my pc several times , it still appears on the "privacy" list of modules and when i check the "troubleshooting" menu its already "unchecked" but still appearing on the "privacy" list of installed modules

i noticed that after i updated "passwords" are installed without my permission when i click this module its just circling around forever, doesnt do anything, again i tried to uninstall this module too but upon checking its uncheked already in troubleshooting menu from the very beginning , i didn't uncheck it intentionally its just uncheked already the moment i look it on the menu but still its on the "privacy" menu too

i was only succesfully uninstalled the "webcam shield" but "passwords" and "password protection" still appearing on the "privacy" list of modules
can some one help me about this issue? its been around since updating to the latest version of avast, and it really worries me taht maybe it will become an annoyance in the future when browsing thru chrome

Ok, thanks. I'll try to remember that when it's updated the next time.

@Kristian46,
Listed under a category doesn't mean it's active and running.
SecureLine is also listed but, unless you're paying for it, it's not going to work
except for a possible short trial.

Yes.. I use the it for suspend all non-gaming user processes. I didn't know hardened mode settings were also there, I can't find them.

If they are there I presume it would be under the Core Shields, File System Shield settings.  I haven't updated to the latest version so I can't say with any confidence.  This whole mess for a UI including and especially the hidden area needs a complete rework.

Is it not under the AvastUI > Settings > Protection > Core Shields > Viruses tab as it used to be ?

Of course it's there, but only the checkbox to on/off. There's no way to choose between Moderate and Aggressive now, because that was in old settings only.

Shouldn't have removed old settings without bringing the important stuff to the new UI first, that was very irresponsible.

Today my PC refuses to shutdown, because Avast service cannot be stopped normally. Never happened to me before. Win 7 64bit, Avast free.

Update: Now this happen me every shutdown. Each shut down takes 5 min with this error.
