I am using Avast free 20.3.2405 (build 20.3.5200.575) on Windows 10. I just had a problem where I got a pop-up message from Avast saying that it had detected a trojan and moved it to the virus chest. I could not get the pop-up to go away however. After numerous attempts (and regardless of whatever I tried with Avast), including setting it to silent mode, the pop-up kept reappearing.
I finally decided that the only way I could get the pop-up to disappear was to uninstall Avast and reinstall it. I uninstalled it using Revo Uninstaller which is my go-to uninstall program and it confirmed that I had deleted all of the registry keys and files and that the uninstall was complete. I then re-booted the system to make sure that the uninstall had been completed.
Upon rebooting, I discovered that Avast was still on my system and functioning normally. I had done nothing to reinstall it. Furthermore, it now no longer shows up on either my Revo list of installed programs or in the Windows 10 list of installed programs. Can someone tell me first, why the pop-up problem occurred and now why Avast is still on my system after uninstall and now with no way of uninstalling it? I don't like having a program running on my computer that doesn't show up on my installed programs list.
Thanks for any feedback.
