What is going on here? Is Avast trustworthy?

Screenshot of a file I scanned with Avast on my laptop, and the same file at the Virustotal website (which includes a scan by Avast) My laptop finds no problems with it, virustotal has 22 hits of detection. How many times have I simply run a scan by Avast on my laptop and just trusted it when it tells me the file is safe?

The VT analysis is almost two years old. Try rescanning the file.

I reanalyzed the file and it came back with more engines detecting it, but when I scanned it with Avast today, it detected the same malware as mentioned in virustotal, that it didn't catch yesterday.
