Outlook/Express

Using avast! version 4.7 Home Edition, and when viewing the On-Access Scanner page the following message is highlighted & displayed:  "Outlook/Express The provider is waiting for a subsystem to start."  Is there anything I am supposed to do in this case?  Thanks, Jim.

I think you mean Outlook/Exchange ?

If you don't use MS Outlook (not express) or MS Exchange then terminate the Outlook/Exchange provider, it is waiting on MS Outlook starting.

What is your email program ?
Windows 10 Home 64bit/ Acer Aspire F15/ Intel Core i5 7200U 2.5GHz, 8GB DDR4 memory, 256GB SSD, 1TB HDD/ avast! free 24.3.6108 (build 24.3.8975.762) UI 1.0.801/ Firefox, uBlock Origin, uMatrix/ MailWasher Pro/ Avast! Mobile Security

If it, indeed, the Outlook Express (Internet Mail provider), remember the Internet Mail Provider is an avast! resident provider and it is not just the corresponding service. If you have Internet Mail running and stop the "avast! Mail Scanner" service, you disable the scanning of e-mails, but you don't turn the provider into "stopped" state (rather "waiting for a subsystem to start"). Similarly, if Internet Mail is stopped, you cannot start it just by starting the "avast! Mail Scanner" service.

DavidR; You are correct, it is Outlook/Exchange.  Sorry for mis-stating.  My e-mail program is "Outlook Express 6".  Thanks, Jim.

Your welcome, just terminate the Outlook/Exchange provider and you shouldn't get any more of these messages.

DavidR;  I did as you suggested.  I am curious, I don't see any mention of Outlook Express being protected.  Thanks, Jim.

Because OE is covered by the Internet Mail provider along with many other pop3 email programs.
