freezing

hi, i just installed avast and it detected that i had a virus. I hit remove virus and it starts a memory scan and then my mouse freezes and nothing happens.  Is this normal or should i reinstall.

not normal. boot in safe mode and scan to clean the virus

Do you remember which virus was that? Which file was infected?
You can try either to schedule a boot time scanning (before Windows starts).  ;)

What was the name of the virus?
