Just to be on the safe side, I disabled the Avast shields control for 10min or 1 hr so that I can instal new software.
But every time when I disable them they are unable to launch again. Only restarting the PC will help.
So is there an operating procedure to follow after I turn-off them for 10 or 1 hr...
Note, I did not select disable it permanently nor until the next computer restart..

IS there something

follow the instruction to repair the APS but problem still persisted.

so when I saw this thread "Windows cannot find files/programs"..which my Acrobat reader & JRiver Music center are having same problem too.
i decided to perform this  https://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=234797.0..
So i had installed the latest version of APS version 20.4.2410 (build 20.4.5312.577).
But this only solved "windows cannot find the files/programs" issue.

by the way, according to the post the new update is 20.1 but i am getting 20.4.2410..

So is there any resolution or work around for the actual issue here?

Having tried an Avast Repair (did you restart the system after it ?) the next step would be to try a clean reinstall.

1. - Download the avast! Uninstall Utility, avastclear.exe https://www.avast.com/uninstall-utility and save it to your HDD.
Make a note of the steps required or print the page.
2. - Download the latest Avast off-line installation file (see https://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=234638.0) and save to your HDD.

Follow the instructions in the link in 1.

The Shield Control duration is all that it should be, no restart required.  If when finished what it was you were doing you should be able to reverse it from the same location (the tray icon options).

I have just done it and it is working as expected.

Just using the Support Ticket system report it seeking help https://support.avast.com/support/tickets/new (you may well get the same info initially as here) giving a link to this topic could help with all the information you have given here.

Select the - Technical support for a paid Avast product and proceed through the various options.  Finally enter the detailed information and brief description and give the forum link here and send.

If Repair doesn't fix the problem, try the following:
If your Avast settings are not the default settings and you want them restored after the Clean Install, follow this before removing Avast.
