AdAware Scan Results
« on: September 13, 2006, 02:04:56 AM »
OK, I know there's a user forum for AdAware but I thought I'd pose the question here.

I've scanned 6 computers so far after downloading today's AdAware updates and get results similar to the following on all of them

Four of these computers are in one network, 2 in another.  All are scanned regularly with avast!, Ewido, AdAware and Spybot S&D.  The 2-computer network is also scanned often with A-Squared and the 4-computer network was scanned with both Ewido and A-Squared after seeing these AdAware results  .  None of the other sanners show these problems (just some cookies and low risk items).  Three of the computers are also running Spyware Terminator while another has Previx.

Is anyone else getting scan results like this?  Surely these must be false positives.

I'm getting similar results to yours.  None of my other malware scanners find anything in Ad-Aware's latest scan with todays updates.  I have all you mentioned except A-squared & Prevex.  Usually Ad-Aware only finds mru's.  Its hard to believe Ad-Aware finds trojans that ewido doesn't.  I can't remember Ad-Aware ever before finding a trojan on my computers.

I can't remember Ad-Aware ever finding a trojan on my computers.
well trust me when i was using Avg antivirus free the only thing that helped me to get rid of 23 nasty  things in my cpu was Ad Aware not Avg, now i know that this two programs are very different but Avg was not able to clean my cpu from some nasty things he was only able to detect some of them, and with the help of Ad Aware custom settings  i have managed to clean most of them.
here is a list of some of them:
Adware.look2Me(4 objects total)
VX2 ( 9 Objects total ) Tac rating 10
IE Hijacker.ZestyFind ( 2 Objects total )
CoolwebSearch ( 2 Objects total )
Downloader.Adload.ch
and something listed as Other ( 2 Objects total )
after that i got back to avast wich clean the rest of the viruses that Avg did not even detect.

The custom settings for AD Aware are taken from this forum http://forum.worldstart.com/showthread.php?t=43513
This is the custom scan i used to clean the cpu:

"Run Ad-Aware SE. Make sure all other windows, including your browser, is closed.

* Click "Check for updates now" in the lower right.
* Click "Connect" and then "OK".
* When the updating process finishes, click "Finish".
* Click on the gear icon in the upper right (Settings).
* Click "Scanning".
* Select:
- "Scan within archives"
- "Scan my IE Favorites for banned URLs"
- "Scan my hosts file"
* Click "Tweaks".
* Click "Cleaning Engine".
* Select "Automatically try to unregister objects prior to deletion".
* Click "Proceed".
* Click "Start".
* Select "Use custom scanning options".
* Click "Next" and wait for the scanning process to complete.
* Select all the items found for removal. ("Removal" actually puts things in quarantine, so you can generally recover them if you need to.)
* Reboot your computer.
* Repeat the last 5 steps from "Start" until no more items are found."

Hi Snowhite.

My settings are very similar to yours but I also have "Scan Registry" and "Deep Scan Registry" checked in the scanning options.  If yours are not checked this could explain the detections I have while you have none.

Its hard to believe Ad-Aware finds trojans that ewido doesn't. I can't remember Ad-Aware ever before finding a trojan on my computers.
That's my feeling too.

Sorry mauserme but i checked the deep scaning of the registry and nothing was found...drhayden1 did full scan and had similar results like you, he sent the results to me, so maybe its something different... :P ;)

Take care

Something like up to my neck in trojan downloaders?  :o    Maybe.

Still, two networks 8 miles apart both popping at the seams with the same malware...

I'm not so sure about this.

     When are you going to learn to go to the "source"
     on questions like this !? I spent 30 seconds going
     to www.lavasoftsupport.com and found :

Hi Spiritsongs  - thanks for the link.

I had actually checked the Lavasoft forum earlier in the day but must have been there too soon.  Probably should have checked again before posting here.
