EMail Blocking
« on: September 13, 2006, 10:45:27 AM »
Hello all im new my names Mark....  :)

We are currently moving from McAfee to Avast and its so much better. One little problem im having is that we have users that receive encrypted email and Avast on the exchange server is blocking it. The workstation that gets the mail does not have Avast installed on it could this be a problem ? It is going to have Avast installed it just has not happened yet.

Thanks for any help

All sorted now so no need to reply thanks

Blocking? It shouldn't block anything... avast just scans it.
Can you check if the avast services or whatever it is called in a server could connect, scans mail and deliver it to the workstation?
Ports, firewall?

It shouldn't be a problem if the mail is scanned in the server it should, as far I understand, be delivered clean to the workstation  ::)

What i found it to be is,

Avast was scanning the mail item and inserting its message into the body to say that it is clean.
When an encrypted mail is sent the body of the message is unavaliable to be read be read until it is openend by the correct user in a full window not even in prievew pane.

Beacuse the message was having this text inserted as soon as it reached the workstation the certificate could not read it as it thinks it has been tampered with thus the attachments becoming unreadable.

So, won't be easy just unchecking the option for 'clean notes' in the outbound (smtp) mail?
