2 problems
« on: July 19, 2020, 02:44:10 PM »
I  have used Avast Free & Secure Browser a long time with no probs. Now the Bank Mode in Secure Browser won't launch. That's the first problem. I checked my Avast Free by trying to launch it-refused to,saying UI Failure, whether I tried from Start Page, desktop or tray icons. So I un-installed the Free and re-installed it. Now I have a further problem, because the Apps list says it is installed, but it doesn't appear on the Start Page and there are no ions at all,so I can't launch it! The Bank Mode still won't work. A perfectly working longterm system suddenly disintegrates! I have the paid Avast VPN but there is no effect whether it's on or off.

Avast Secure Browser (ASB) has its own dedicated section on this Forum: https://forum.avast.com/index.php?board=78.0
However ASB Bank Mode is closely linked to Avast Antivirus so you need to fix that initially.

First try a Repair of Avast AV. If the UI is not working to do that, you can go to Apps Uninstall and you should see a Repair option there.
If that fails, you should do a full uninstall using the avastclear.exe that can be downloaded from Avast website.
Then try to install Avast AV again afeter downloading the offline installer afresh (in case it was corrupted last time).

Repair Avast:
Open the Avast User Interface > Menu > Settings > Troubleshooting > Repair App. > Restart the Computer or,
Control Panel> Program and Features (Add/remove program)>Select Avast> Select Repair. Reboot when completed
https://www.avast.com/faq.php?article=AVKB204

If Repair doesn't fix the problem, try the following:
If your Avast settings are not the default settings and you want them restored after the Clean Install, follow this before removing Avast.

Have you restarted your system? (Restart not shut and start.)
What version of Secure Browser is installed?

Have just uninstalled Secure Browser then tried the whole procedure again. Still no icons. It appears Avast don't offer direct tech support for Free product. Support page only offers database search(no results for this problem)or ask Forum, which I've now done and sadly not been able to fix what was working perfectly well till today. If they do offer such support I'd be grateful if someone could point me there.

What operating system?
Have you tried a clean install of the Secure Browser?

Download the installer from here, https://www.avast.com/en-us/secure-browser
Download the Secure Browser Removal tool from here, https://download.avastbrowser.com/avast_secure_browser_uninstall.exe
Save your Bookmarks via the Book Marks Manager if you have custom bookmarks so you can import them when you re-install.
Uninstall Secure Browser via Programs and Features - Reboot
Run the removal tool, reboot, run the installer import your favorites if you saved them.
A video to help with the installation: https://youtu.be/r_VLA0HMLQM
Report back if that's solved the problem or not.
Avast has offered a seperate tool to totally remove the Secure Browser if the above instructions don't work.
You can find that tool here, https://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=230288.msg1531315#msg1531315

OK. I don't think we have asked you this important question.
Do you have any other antivirus or antimalware software installed or not properly removed?
(excluding Windows Defender).
