With everything you said, what makes me very upset about AVAST is that even when you set it to update manually, Avast comes and updates it without you wanting it to.

I'm not experiencing any major problems, so I'd say the new version works great on my PC.
Thank you and good day!

Based on reports from several here on the forum, it won't take long for your Avast to update automatically, even if you activate it as automatic update.
One thing that I think is wrong with AVAST, if I don't want to update, I don't have to update, but as I said there are several reports that several people said that when they saw Avast it was already on the new version.

You don't say what your Avast Program Update settings are, generally Manual Update doesn't Automatically update (regardless of what New_Style_xd said).  I have had it set to Manual Program Update for almost all of the time I have been using avast, but then again I have only been using it for around 20 years.

Outside of when I was actively on the Beta Build testing, in which case you are ahead of the curve on regular program updates anyway.

It certainly hasn't happened in my case and the only thing that should/could override that would be an Emergency update, generally a security fix.

I believe this is an emergency update.
I will tell you what happened to a user here on the avast forum.
It had version 23.11 product manual update was set to manual.
It looks like he hasn't turned on the computer for a while. When he called after more than a month, I don't remember. His Avast antivirus was version 24.1.
He commented that he didn't want to. that it was updated to 24.1 because it had not been upgraded.
With this emergency update it is going over his wishes. even though he runs the risk of his machine being left with an old version with a security flaw.
As I said, he wanted to keep the old version. but avast didn't let me. This was someone's comment here on the forum.

I don't recall an Emergency Update (they really aren't that frequent), right up until I manually updated to 24.1, that said a computer that is off-line for a month would certainly have a lot of virus definition updates.  What I don't know is if this long delay would trigger a program update or not.

If I remember rightly (possibly not) the Emergency Update check is a scheduled task.

I really agree with you. If Avast has this functionality to make an emergency update that it does smoothly, I will always know that I am up to date.
Now with this print you posted. I have a doubt that I think you can clarify for me.
If by chance I disable the scheduled task that Avast has by default to perform emergency updates. Is there a risk that Avast won't allow it and force this update?
Because it would be an option for people who don't want to receive emergency updates, disabling it in the task scheduler.

1.  You don't specifically mention what that doubt is.

2.  I honestly don't know, but even to try you would need to be attempting as the Administrator and you may also need to disable the Avast Self Defence. Both of which for the limited issues reported in the forum out of hundreds of millions of Avast users I feel are over the top and don't come risk free.

I disabled Avast Emergency Update here, to see what will happen.
I didn't need to disable Avast Self Defense.
Everything is going normally so far.

Greetings from slopes in Dolomites in Italy!
Please welcome the first version of Avast AV in year 2024 released on February 6th, 2024

Major public announcement:
  • Enhancing the Network Inspector capabilities to run scans i parallel and fixing some minor issues.
  • You can change the default frequency of Smart Scans now.
  • Optimisation of Web Shield scanning to make your browsing faster.

How to install:

After this update Diablo 4 won't start anymore, I added it in the Allowed Apps still nothing, only way to start it is to disable AVAST.

Any idea ?

If this is happening, it is best not to play the game until the avast team checks this in a future fix.
Another option is to reach out to someone from the Avast team and give you a better solution. When it's not enough, stop playing the game.
