« on: July 25, 2020, 12:40:29 AM »
Hi, Avast enthusiasts. We'd like to hear your opinions on some possible features we're thinking of adding to our antivirus.

(These are just ideas for now, so there's no guarantee that they'll become reality.)

Just click the link below to see high-level descriptions of those features, and let us know what you think. You can also vote on your favorite features and even submit your own ideas.

Voting: https://portal.productboard.com/avast-protection/1-avast-antivirus/tabs/1-under-consideration?fbclid=IwAR3--PGluN-_VPnuUtFNTfW4jIAKIAuAuUK10Xf900fXdbBTfJpWB7GZa10

Hello Avast team,
you are thinking about adding new features because you MUST release new version each month, but most of those features are more or less bloatware. This product became very fat over time. What about remove unnecessary bloat from this product and make it lightweight with minimum impact on computer performance? Try think about that.

In fact, for computer security you dont need 3rd  party AV because Win 10 has everything. So reason to install Avast should be better detection with less impact to computer performance. If you install Avast only active shields are necessary with wifi inspector if you want use it. Installing 3rd party firewall these days while win firewall is sufficient make no sense with potentially problems. AV should work silently on background but this will never happen in Avast. Spyware and often ad popups are cost for Free version (Paid version watch you too).

This is just my opinion what make this AV better, adding new features and make this product even more fat is no way to go. Removing ads, spyware and bloatware and focus on pure performance and detection, then you maybe bring back Avast users you already lost.  But this is your product, do what you want.

The choices offered, don't give you the opportunity to actually voice your opinion.
It's multiple choice and they don't necessarily fit the actual opinion one wants to share.

I'm sure that added protection would not be available in the free Avast Firewall.

Avast gives you the option to install what you want by using custom install or changing the program under Programs and Features. Currently, there are 6 items I uncheck at installation. You don't have to install what you consider bloatware. Others may find new features useful.

You can comment on your choice by selecting nice-to-have, important, or critical and you can submit your own idea.

No, but you still pay more and more for each new useless function. :-\
On the other hand paid users are what allows the base (antivirus) to be efficient even for free users.
Too bad the policy (this poll and the loss of AIS say a lot about that) is not to make all users pay very reasonably for what they have as security with avast free.
But if they don't, they have their reasons.

Precisely why I made my comment. It isn't a true review but multiple choice and none of them may apply.

Of course i uncheck features i dont want. I mean adding more things to this product may slow down your computer, if they must run realtime (firewall, behaviour shield, ransomware shield.....). This is only paranoia, if you use brain you cannot get ransomware at all. This may be only useful for people without backups, but those days everyone has backup of important data. In other hand usefull features like file shredder, which has no impact on computer performance and has free alternatives is paid.

Firewall redesign (premium version)

Make our paid firewall easier to use and more effective by:
• updating its design
• improving the handling of firewall rules and customization options
• adding more security features

I second the suggestion from Martin.
Currently, the FW settings are spread over several different areas. Not user friendly..!!

It shouldn't take a genius to figure out how to set up custom settings.
The default should be set to keep the average person safe with easy to understand explanations on the various settings and functions.
Make it simple so that even a Senior can understand it. :)

I wonder if it is worth suggesting reformatting the geek:area, but is not a thing that could be monetised, so forget that idea.
So the phrase "none of the above" comes to mind. IMO Avast need to get back to concentrating more on the quality rather than quantity of features.

Not just reworking the geek:area were you have to scroll forever to find anything, but also time to completely redesign the whole UI.  It is not very intuitive and getting very tired and not really easy to navigate.

The UI also needs to support modern hi resolution screens, e.g. be user resizeable.

Generally I do a minimal install and then check two other options, mail shield, software updater and lately the do not disturb function.  The rest is just too much noise.
