Is Apple promoting piracy ?
« on: September 17, 2006, 02:13:54 PM »
Is Apple, through its policy of not selling it's operating system,
promoting or endorsing piracy?
We know that dual booting from an Intel® Core™ Duo processor
between a Microsoft Windows XP and an Apple OSX operating system is possible.

If you purchase a computer from Apple, with OSX installed as its native operating system,
Apple has software available (bootcamp) to make dual booting between OSX and XP possible.

If however you own the same Intel® Core™ Duo processor which has Mirosoft's Windows XP operating system
installed as it's native operating system, the only way to achieve dual boot capability between
Mac OSX10 and Windows XP is through a pirated and patched OSX10 install DVD.

Remember, none of this is theory, it is fact.

Wake up Apple! Make the money while the market is ripe.

Please don't wait till the market is flooded with pirated, altered and possible infected technology.

Yeah i even noticed some people are running pirated OSX on AMD processors. So much for "incompatibility" ...

I suppose if they hack the check for the TMP chip (not sure if TMP is correct but the chip OSX looks for to find an apple system), then in theory if you remove that check it should install (or hack it to return True). Or is that to simplistic.

I think the processor must support SSE3 extensions to run OS X and it has to be x86 architecture so it should run fine on AMD 64.

Correct SSE3 is required because of Core Audio, Core Video, Core image etc.

Holy Crap, is it your Hobby to find all the anti-apple stuff you can?} >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:(
No Mac it is not.
You are missing the point. You can't stop progress and you can't change fact.
The technology is out there and Apple can either cash in on it or,  insist on just selling their hardware.

I have said this over and over. APPLE WILL NOT SELL OS X FOR THE PC!

What does dell make their money off of? Hardware.
What does Apple make their money off of? Hardware!

Yes they could open up OS X but the only ones that would buy it would be Home users, large enterprise customers ould still buy windows because they already have thousands of dollars, euros, pounds etc invested in software for Windows

In other words Bob they are afraid that if they start selling OS X nobody would buy mac's anymore. At least that's how it looks to me.

Mac you're right.
As long as Apple has and maintains the same attitude as you, they will never sell their operating system.
They will also never grow to be as big as their true potential.
When a company lives in a cocoon, it is sometimes hard to break out of it and realize that there  are
many ways to make money and grow.

I think Bob's point is a good one.

The typical home user has to make a choice between a Windows and Apple based system.    More often than not Windows is the choice made in my experience.  So if Apple will not reap a sale of any kind in this situation (hardware or otherwise), the chance to make a few dollars off the sale of just the OS is logical.

Sure, selling the hardware too is preferable from a corporate point of view, but selling something is preferbale to selling nothing, isn't it?

.:Mac:. isn't the one to make the decision to make Apple's software for pc's.  If he agrees with you will OSX be available for pc use?

If Apple does make their os available for pc use they will still sell computers as well as their os.  All the reviews I have read on computers have Apples on top and Apples support also comes out on top for best costomer support.  Apple has about 3% of the market & I think more than 3% want top of the line computers, so I think their computers sales might increase if Mac & Windows os could be as easy to install on all computers.  Maybe that is why Apple came out with boot camp to run windows on Macs?  Apple just needs to go to the next step...no hindrances to using their os on pc & no need for boot camp for Windows to run on Macs.
