That's right no web shield protection, which I have been telling you all along.

What do you do, you need to do as we have been trying to get you to do and manually configure your browsers that you want to use the web shield.

Thanks and Blessings, David! :-* I now have web shield protection for both IE and Foxfire.  I followed your directions exactly.

What I had not understood - and why I got so messed up - was because where it calls for the name in Proxy settings, it said "localhost." I thought that meant I needed to put the name of my local server, Cox there!  Also on the port. I thought Cox was supposed to give me a certain number.

Little did I realize all I needed to type in was "localhost" and port"12080"

I've now got numbers running in avast for the scans (Web shield) in both IE and Foxfire, as I did each separately.

Now to get my mail set up...

Thanks again.

Hope you can see why I was in the dark. It was not because I was stubborn and wouldn't do what you all suggested. It was because I thought I was supposed to insert Cox' name and numbers in the blank for proxy server and they would not give me any names or numbers, only said Cox does not support Windows 98.
