GUI bug/Hang?
« on: September 18, 2006, 03:09:06 PM »
Hello everyone, I've recently upgraded to XP x64, haven't had the chance to explore it much so forgive me if I should have found the answer allready. I'm having a problem when starting the AVast scanning program. Whenever I start it a small band appears which remains there permanently and displays part of the desktop/UI as it was when started, the program fails to initialise afterwards. When I start it a second time it's useable and operating normally I suppose.

I can only remove this strip by changing the screen resolution without the program running.

my setup is:

ASrock  Dual775-VSTA with pentium D 805
Asus N6600 LE
2 hdd's normal IDE
WIn XP x64
using:
windowblinds
QNP by concetpworld(stickies program)
rivatuner
gmail notifier

I suspect the incompatibility lies with windowblinds but if not I'd like to know what to do, and if so same thing lol. I'm attaching an image of how it looks now, it's exactly the same colour as my desktop background. I'm running a scan right now.

Thanks in advance

ah, I forgot but it appears two instances are running simultaneously whilst one is inactive. I'm including another screencapture.

This problem is really big for me personally, I use my computer daily to create digital paintings and other computer generated visuals. Any heplp would be greatly appreciated.

Leftovers?
Well, indeed WindowBlinds could be the problem...
Which firewall do you use?
Are you stressing the computer when this happens? I mean, a lot of CPU usage?
Are your video drivers updated?

I'm using the standard windows firewall, it's not very good I'm told but the oly alternative considering it's all 64 bit on my comp.

I have updated my drivers just now to a beta version. Grabbed them straight from NVidia's site so no tampering by the manufacturer. It seems to have solved the problem. But last time it also occured after a while.

No particular extra stress when this happens. It happens everytime whether I'm running something else or not. I hope this lasts. A thing I noticed is that I suddenly saw a leftover pop up backk in screen when the overlay was used for HD video. not sure whether vmr 9 supports HD so maybe it's a buffer thing? ( I don't actually know anything about this but I'm going on circumstancial evidence lol)

Thanks! last time I searched was about two weeks ago, back then they were all expensive and aimed towards servers etc. The few I found were either lacking or not userfriendly

Gonna check me some firewalls later tonight. :D

Hi all.

I am also having this problem with system I just built:

Asus P5B Deluxe w/ e6600.
eVga 7900 GT KO.
WD Sata2 320 HDD.
Win XP x64.
2 GB Crucial Ballistix.

plus assorted other applications, nothing major.

The blue bar happens and stays put (read's Start avast! Antivirus).

Anyone figured this out?

Thanks for all the help.
