UPDATE:

Console report says this about the many many crash reports:

EXC_BAD_ACCESS (SIGSEGV)
Exception Codes:       KERN_INVALID_ADDRESS at 0x0000000000000000

Does this help identify what went wrong????

Thanks

Re: more info repeated "Reportcrash" generated by com.avast.daemon

Some additional information - If I disable the "Web Shield" in Avast, this problem does not happen.

I can then open any browser (and also start Parallels, which I think is equivalent to a network connection). No problem. All of this is with wireless connected.

Then I can activate the "Web Shield" and still no problem.

However, if I then go anywhere in any browser the problem starts and continues.

So I am guessing that com.avast.daemon is related to "Web Shield" and it is interacting incorrectly with something that correlates with network activity.

As far as I know, there have been no changes to network connections.

Does this help to localize the problem? Thanks

This issue should be fixed now. Please make sure that you have the latest VPS (virus definitions) - Avast tray icon (or app menu) and "Check for updates".
Quality is also a feature.

Yes indeed it is fixed! I had been doing lots of diagnostics - The same installation of Avast that crashed worked fine when used in a newly created test account on the same computer, which had my head spinning.

Thanks for the fix (which I guess was in the virus definition file) - because among other things it means there is nothing (obviously) wrong with my computer/account!
