com.avast.daemon crashing every 10 seconds on Mac

Macbook, mid2012 13" i7 8Gb, with the latest OS Patch 10.14.6, running AVAST 14.5 free basic no extras,  is generating repeated crash reports every 10 seconds.
What is AVAST up to ?
