I have a virus on my computer that I cannot get rid of.
« on: August 25, 2020, 12:00:11 AM »
Hello,
I have re installed Windows 10 Pro & I still have a virus.
When I install Windows I choose the custom option & I made sure that I formatted my HD then installed Windows but I still have a virus.
When I have Avast do a virus scan it finds the virus but the scan history reads "0" infections.
So I dunno what else to do.
Can I send you a copy of my scan history?
If so where do I go in order to send them to you?
Please help.

It says 0 infection. But it might be a bug I have it as well when I do a full scan.

Confusion regarding the meaning of that ghost or pacman icon in scan history continues until Avast come out and explain what the hell it means.
Just so annoying as even experienced forum members cannot help or reassure other users without a simple explanation from Avast.  ::)

If a scan says 0 infected files, then I would accept that as true state of your system regardless of the ghost/pacman thing.

True, though hasn't this problem been going on for... Like 3 weeks now without an explanation?

Hello,
I left some info out that might help.
I did a Format of my C Drive & a Full Windows 10 Pro Install Then I installed Avast Premium.
When I did a Boot Scan I was getting files that had a "Decompression Bomb" attached to my downloaded compressed files & a Exception in the Virus Macros message attached to my Framework & a couple of other files.
Also after I did the Windows 2004 Update I got a extra partion on my Drive.

This is not necessarily a problem - Decompression Bomb, a file that is highly compressed, which could be very large when decompressed. This used to be a tactic long ago to swamp the system.

The name really is the most dangerous thing about this and I wish they would change it or simply not report it, a real PITA.

These highly compressed files are generally 'archive' files which are inert, don't present an immediate risk until they are unpacked. If you happen to select 'All packers' in your on-demand scans then you are more likely to come across this type of thing. Personally it is a waste of time scanning 'all packers' and that is why it isn't enabled by default.

Hi,

The icon indicates that something went wrong (error in file scanning but no threats were found).
It is normal behavior and no need for concern.
We apologize for any confusion caused.

Scan error messages from scan engine is not detections. Error messages is often seen when running boot scan.

Boot scan is not meant to be used as a regular scanner, it does not have any detection advantages but is a special tool to be used if you have problems removing a detected infection. Same as scanning in safe mode, if a file is in use it may not be able to clean/quarantine/delete in normal mode

Most security scanners today will give a message after scan that say something like "this and that will be removed when you reboot" if scan detect something it cant remove because file is in use

Isn't an error in a file scan bad though?

Not necessary, i dont think you see this in a normal quick/full scan? (i dont use avast)

And the zip archive message usually just mean that the scan engine will not unpack and scan it for whatever reason
