@adrianmark
Can you explain a bit more. What message are you seeing.
If you add some screenshots, they may also help illustrate your situation much better.

It would also help to know what version of Avast you are using Free? Paid?

Recently I updated Avast Premium, since yesterday I suffer form a huge memory leak, I can't work longer than between half an hour and an hour, depending which programs I use. What to do, for I need it for my office.

Update: my pc now crashes within 5 minutes, CPU is 100% from the start and memory usage runs up like crazy! This is not what I pay for!!

1. Download Avast Premium Security: https://files.avast.com/iavs9x/avast_premium_security_setup_offline.exe
2. Follow instructions: https://www.avast.com/uninstall-utility (Run this tool for all prior installed Avast versions..!!)
3. Reinstall Avast with the downloaded installer from point 1.
4. Reboot.

hello, not sure what is happening with my avast but after the update, the Avast Service is continually running taking 30% of CPU nonstop. 3 reboots have solved nothing, neither has a full shutdown. why is this happening?? How do I fix this?
-> https://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=237567.0

I updated my Windows 10 PC to Avast 20.7.2425 (build 20.7.5568.598) last night.
This morning on reboot, Avast took over the whole PC! Twice, the screen froze and
I had to crash and restart. The CPU usage is, as stated by others, insane: about
25% *each* for Avast service and Avast firewall service. The disk was grinding away
so much  that no read/write operations by applications were possible.

I came across some articles about repairing Avast and I tried that. It appears to
have solved the disk issue (that is why I am able to type this!), but the high CPU
usage is still an issue. There are 5 Avast Antivirus instances in the Task Manager.
Power usage is very high, too. For the first time in the two years that I have had
this machine, I hear the fan running. I have 16 GB of RAM. Memory usage is also
weird: the Task Manager says I am using 97% of memory.

I went to the suggested page (https://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=237567.0),
but I confused by the very first instruction: should I download or not? As I have
the "newest" installation of Avast, how do get a log?

I did try to click on the link in this page to download (on Firefox) and I get is the
XML text -- no download.

Incidentally, in the time I took to type this up, the screen froze twice for about 10
seconds.

Need help to fix this. Would a complete uninstall and reinstall help? How can I
submit a log? I have already submitted feedback via the Avast GUI.

Thanks.

PS: Just as I was pre-viewing the above, the disk activity went back to 100%and the
machine froze. I had to crash it again. This time, I uninstalled Avast on reboot. Everything
is normal again:
CPU: 3%
Disk: 1%
Memory: 22%

Clearly Avast  20.7.2425 (build 20.7.5568.598) has a problem. Is there a fix
in the works?

If Repair doesn't fix the problem, try the following:
If your Avast settings are not the default settings and you want them restored after the Clean Install, follow this before removing Avast.

upon installing this update my premium security will open up randomly

I've completely removed it using the tool then reinstalled it and the problem still persists.

Thanks for helping me! I have two questions b4 I start doing this:
1) Can I start the removal tool from any directory (like the download directory) or must it be located in the directory C:\Program Files\AVAST Software\Avast  ?
2) Has this solution been proven? It may sound peculiar to ask, but I have had huge problems with uninstalling/reinstaling in the past, got burned, so ....

It's amazing how one computer had zero issues with the update, and the other went crazy. Anyways, with the one that is having problems, a Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit navigation one, is there a way to turn off Avast, so it can be uninstall? It is cooking 100% CPU.  Also, I am confused about the directions that the windows 7 folks have
https://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=237567.0
Does that mean both the file at the bottom xperf_x86.msi or x64.msi and the file avast-profile.wprp thing?

Keep in mind, it seems to not last more than a few minutes before the computer starts jittering. I don't know how I'm going to get the file(s) on the computer before it freezes. Also, the window doesn't load/open. I can't do a thing with avast itself, and task manager wont let me stop it.

I figured out the issue. It was that the internet has to be on when starting up computer after update. I totally forgot that. (I have my internet off by default.) I was going through the steps to uninstall the program in control panel when I saw it was like a older version of avast. I then realized it had never finish updating. I turned on the internet and then like that everything got better.

I am still getting around 50% CPU. Higher than normal, but not bricking me. Sorry for this post. Please delete if not seen as useful.

I am currently at 20.7.2425 (build 20.7.5568.598).
I see no memory leaks on avast premium security. Well, I am spending more than 50% of RAM when browsing, but mainly due to the browser.  :)

It is preferable to attach images to post rather than give off-site links (who knows what is there) 'Attachments and other options' option below the reply window.

That said, on your off-site image, collectively all of those avast processes don't add up to much (certainly not on 16GB of RAM).  I don't see anything for the Avast Secure Browser if that is the browser you are using ?
I don't use it now, so I can't recall what service is used.

The latest build is 20.7.5568.599, I don't know if that might help, but a system restart should bring it up to date.
But for me Avast Free is relatively light.

Browsers do tend to be heavy on RAM (multiple tabs plus the main service) my default browser Firefox is currently using 1,440.6MB and that is a lot on a 8GB RAM system.

Hi, I haven't found the way to attach image in this forum (I believe we can't upload image to this forum, right?). I'll try to look for a place to host image outside that allows attachment to other site.

I am using both Edge or Firefox. Yes, I am not using avast secure browser (not installed). I am agreeing with avast doesn't take much RAM, and yes Firefox could take around nearly 2GB of RAM.
