Stop/pause avast from scanning steam?

Hello, is there a proper way to stop/pause avast from scanning steam while downloading a game?
I saw avast running every time steam download and install game. this makes it take longer.  I put whole steam folder to exception but it doesnt work, avast still scanning.

I don't believe it would work in that way as I believe it would be scanning the download content before it actually hits your steam folder.  One possibility would to be to exclude the download location in the Web Shield.

That said, excluding a complete domain could be placing your system at greater risk, something you would have to accept.
