« on: September 30, 2006, 05:18:34 PM »
Hi,

Since the last program update 4.7.892 when I open Internet Explorer 6 the internet pages not open ... I need to pause the WEBSHIELD protection, refresh the webpage and then internet pages are ok. After this I start again WEBSHIELD protection and the IE6.0 still work. I need to do this everytime I start my computer.

Windows XP SP2
Avast Antivius 4.7.892
Comodo Firewall 2.3.6.81
SpyBoot - Search & Destroy

I can't understand why this would happen it is usually a case of it eitere works or it doesn't and it is usually the firewall that is blocking ashWebSv.exe.

Have you tried it with a different browser ?
Does this happen with all web pages or just a limited number ?

Try a repair of avast. Add Remove programs, select 'avast! Anti-Virus,' click the Change/Remove button and scroll down to Repair, click next and follow. You need to be on-line to do this.
If that doesn't work try, uninstall, reboot, install, reboot.
It would probably be best to download the latest version of avast and save it to your HDD, somewhere you can find it again. Use that when you reinstall.

Windows 10 Home 64bit/ Acer Aspire F15/ Intel Core i5 7200U 2.5GHz, 8GB DDR4 memory, 256GB SSD, 1TB HDD/ avast! free 24.2.6105 (build 24.2.8918.824) UI 1.0.799/ Firefox, uBlock Origin, uMatrix/ MailWasher Pro/ Avast! Mobile Security

This problem happen only with IE6, with Firefox all internet pages open correctly.
I will try repair or reinstall the Avast next time that problem occur.

Thank You.

If it is only happening with IE but working fine with other browsers (firefox) then I doubt that a repair will have much effect (the same is likely to be true of a reinstall of avast) though it won't hurt. There may be something wrong in IE, either security settings or file corruption, difficult to say. A google search http://www.google.co.uk/search?q=repair+of+IE6 returns many hits if you are considering a repair of IE6.

Just a couple of those hits (if you chose to do this you would also need to reapply the MS security updates at windows update):
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;318378
http://www.theeldergeek.com/repair_reinstall_ie_and_oe_6.htm

Personally on a security perspective I would use firefox as your primary browser and only use IE if you can't use anything else, like for windows update.
