False Virus on Cnet.com ?
« on: September 28, 2006, 02:54:40 AM »
Hi guys,

Today while downloading a little program from Downloads.com Avast antivirus detected a Trojan and my download couldn't be completed. Here is the screenshots I took from Downloads.com while attempting to download the mentioned file:

See the video here: http://windowsvistageeks.org/Downloads/virus_on_cnet%20downloads.avi

I contacted Cnet.com and this is what they said:

I'm guessing it's a false positive on Avast's part because other antivirus scanners didn't detect anything and Avast is turning reporting what appears to be a generic name (win32.agent-bvx). However, be sure to let us know what Avast support says, and if it turns out to be a legitimate threat you can click here to notify the download.com team for removal.

Can you guys verify this False Positive???

Im currently running Windows Vista 5728

Avast Home Edition 4.7.881 Beta
Virus Database 0639-3, 09/27/06

Thanks in advanced

Regards

Yoni

Almost sure this is a false positive.
Download.com is a very good download site, so...

To know if a file is a false positive, please submit it to JOTTI or VirusTotal and let us know the result. If it is indeed a false positive, send it in a password protected zip to virus@avast.com
Please, mention in the body of the message why you think it is a false positive and the password used  ;)
