DNS Hijack - False Detection?
« on: September 22, 2020, 04:50:46 AM »
AVG network scan detects government blocked sites as DNS hijack. This can be ignored / marked as such.

Hi,

The devs started rolling out a fix for this since yesterday.

I can use "secure" DNS servers like CloudFlare, AdGuard, OPenDNS which block/redirect from what they regard as malicious sites and also have servers that block adult sites, if I choose those servers. How are these detected and cleared?

I am not sure if I fully understand your question. To clarify, the detection you originally reported was a WiFi Inspector detection. When you run the WiFi Inspector scan, Avast noticed that there are some suspicious DNS results. This was classified as a DNS hijack but it seems this was not an accurate classification since certain websites are blocked at government level. We have released a fix so that Avast will not classify these results as DNS hijack anymore.
Regarding your question about malicious and adult websites, malicious websites are detected by Avast Web Shield which is running in real time. This means that even if you change your DNS servers, malicious websites will still be detected by Avast Web Shield. As for adult websites, there is no filter for that in Avast Web Shield.
