Do you need avastclear to clean install ?
« on: September 23, 2020, 10:49:28 AM »
I am planning to reinstall my Avast , but first before I start reinstalling I want to make sure everything is clean and there is no leftovers to avoid problem when reinstalling. So do I need to use Avastclear or just simply uninstall Avast from control panel?

The uninstall tool would do a better job of removing leftovers.

if you are planning to reinstall you really don't need to completely delete it with avast clear utility, because you will reinstall it anyway.

Avastclear is only required if there are unusual problems with the installed program or the uninstall will not complete.

There are some registry settings that are not removed by the normal uninstall that will be reused by the new install (they will not be overwritten or reset). There has recently been an issue with Avast where it was causing a Windows "Slow Shutdown" problem - see here: https://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=234120.msg1558635#msg1558635
Avastclear was required to ensure that a reinstall fixed this problem - an ordinary uninstall & reinstall was not enough.
