Sound broken after using Avast Driver Updater
« on: October 08, 2020, 01:02:24 AM »
Hi,
I've used Avast Driver Updater yesterday for the first time. After I've updated all available drivers - I've lost the sound over my laptop. Now I have "No Audio Output Device" information and I cannot get any sound from the laptop speakers nor from external speakers.
I've been trying everything - I've used Windows troubleshooter, uninstalled audio devices, restarted the laptop multiple times, checked out if audio is enabled in Bios (and it is), tried to install audio drivers manually. I've even done the reset of Windows (with the option 'keep my personal files').
And yet nothing helped.
What else can I do? Why Avast Driver Updater broke my sound?
Of course, everything was perfectly well before I've used Avast Driver Updater.
Kind regards,
Weronika

Hi,

Do you have the latest version of Avast Driver Updater installed.
Please try the suggestions as mentioned in this guide: https://support.avast.com/en-ww/article/Driver-Updater-FAQ/#idt_5110

Hi,

first of all let me sincerely apologize for the troubles caused by our product.

There is one problematic driver we already know about and we are about to fix that problem in the next version.
As a workaround until then please find out a driver called "Intel(R) Smart Sound Technology (Intel(R) SST) Audio Controller" click on it in the driver list to see the details and expand the driver versions by clicking on "Driver versions" in the bottom right corner of the details screen.
Then revert to the previous version of the driver to get back your sound, the point is to revert from the problematic version 10.25.0.3950.

If you want you can also skip the problematic driver version by clicking on "..." button in details screen and selecting "Skip update" so you won't be offered with this particular version anymore.

I also attached the screenshot from my own PC so illustrate the situation you should mimic in order to get it fixed.

I hope this will help you to fix the sound problems you're experiencing.
If not, please let us know and we will take a look at it.

Thank you.

Dear Sir,
A couple of days ago, I downloaded and installed your AVAST Updater version 20.1 (build 720).
I’m a registered user for Avast Cleaning Premium and Avast Premium Security.
After rebooting the system, the sound of my computer ASUS VivoBook 14, model X420F, didn’t run.
Reading your thread on Avast Forum I skipped or ignored drivers set out below:
- OED Tecnologia Intel(R) Smart Sound.
- Sonido Intel(R) para pantallas.
Impossible to run again my computer’s sound!
Please, I’d be very grateful if you could help me to fix this very annoying issue, so next week I’ll attend from Tuesday to Thuersday to a handful of videomeetings.
Yours faithfully,
F. Buyo

Hello,

could you please provide us with the logs package so we can investigate what went wrong in your case and fix that?

You can simply send them by executing our log collector utility from this path C:\Program Files\AVAST Software\Driver Updater\dulogcollector.exe and once the logs are collected they will be automatically send to our server.

Once it is done, please let me know which email address you have used there so we can join the logs with your report here.

Thanks

I used Avast Driver Updater for the first time and lost all audio functionality.
I've tried everything (even backing out of the drivers that Avast installed) but nothing worked.

I use my computer full time for work and attend a lot of zoom meetings. Avast has effectively taken away my ability to do my job.
