I would suggest that you send Stellerman a PM (private message)
with your email information. Don't post it here in the public forum.

Hi!

I read all the posts in this forum, but nothing seems to be working for me.  I purchased AVAST Driver Updater and I unfortunately have a similar issue. Yesterday (Dec. 13, 2021), Avast updated my USB drivers and my USB ports aren't working anymore... My PC is now useless because I can't login (no mouse or keyboard will work on my 8 different USB ports).

I have Windows 10, so I am unable to boot in Recovery Mode because I need a working keyboard. I don't have PS/2 ports either (to plug in an old mouse or keyboard)...

So far I managed to go in the BIOS (because the keyboard works before Windows kicks in). I then tried a bootable USB drive, but none of the Troubleshoot options are working... I managed to open a cmd prompt with my bootable USB drive. From there, I removed manually some USB drives, but it didn't do any good... Now I was thinking of launching the last AVAST Driver Updater backup, but I'm not sure where to find this file and how to launch it manually from a CMD prompt. Can someone help me?

I don't know how to attach a file, but I took a picture of the following directory if it can help: ...\Program Files\AVAST Software\Driver Updater\BackupStorage

Thank you,

Alex

Hello,

First of all let me sincerely apologize for all troubles associated with usage of our product.
This is not intentional behavior.

It seems that you got an incompatible USB driver which basically disabled your mouse and keyboard.
You need to restore the Windows to its previous working configuration using the Windows System restore point we create with every driver update action.

However, achieving that without a mouse or keyboard is a bit tricky but not impossible.
Please try to follow this steps to get it fixed:
  • Start PC, just as the manufacturers logo disappears and Windows attempts to load, press and hold Power Button for 5 - 10 seconds to perform a Hard Shut Down
  • Do this twice
  • On the third start Windows will boot into the Recovery Environment
  • Select "Troubleshoot" option to access Advanced options
  • In Advanced options menu select "System Restore"
  • Select last system restore point you will have there and that should resolve the issue
Please let me know if it worked for you or not, otherwise we would need to find another way to help you.

Thank you!

Hi Stellarman,

Thank you for the quick reply. I did not succeed in booting into the "Recovery Environment" in the suggested way (by doing two hard shut downs). I eventually succeeded by crashing my machine (unplugging the power during a reboot), but that didn't work either. My mouse and my keyboard were still non-functional...

So I opted for an even more drastic solution. I removed my hard drive from my PC and put it in an external case. I plugged this case into a laptop that I borrowed. I modified the BIOS of the laptop to boot from the hard drive of my PC. From there I managed to start Windows and use the laptop keyboard to log in. I then restored the Windows Restore point that had been created.

I am writing to you from my PC, now that everything is plugged back and is working again. I lost several hours due to this update of Avast Driver Updater. I will no longer use this software... Is there a way to get a refund?

Regards,
Alexandre

I am truly sorry for what happened to you and I fully respect your requirement for a refund.
Since I am not able to help you directly I already passed your case to our support and they will contact you in order to refund your product.

Once again let me apologize for everything you had to go through. It is quite the opposite of what we are trying to achieve.

There should be a system restore point that was created prior to the update.
Try rolling back to that restore point.
