Antivirus packers test
« on: October 11, 2006, 11:43:14 AM »
There is test on russian site where they checked support of packers in various AntiViruses

http://www.anti-malware.ru/index.phtml?part=tests

if You check details in that .xls then Avast! score is quite bad ...

any comment from Alwil team ? thx

In my opinion, the scores are very strange. I think that "the number of green fields" would give much better sense than "the number of completely green rows".
I suggest to read the full discussion below on wilderssecurity - it actually contains very relevant points.
Also, the test certainly doesn't include the latest build of avast! (2 more packers should be supported that are not); it may be true for the other products as well.

So, I'd say that the test is "interesting", but with very limited relevance to the real world.

well i noticed authors of these tests are quite open and they admit they "maybe" done something wrong ...

and asked for comments and help from other "AV" experts ... so maybe they will share theirs "test set" with You
