I reinstalled AVG 7.5 and ran a full scan with no problems this time.  The Full Scan took over an hour and found 2 more tracking cookies.  I had already run the quick scan. that took 30 minutes.
I do have 50 gigs of hard drive used.
Since Ewido never had a problem, maybe the reinstall has solved it.

why such a huge version jump?
Mac,

The reason for such a high Version jump is because the name AVG goes with there ANTI-VIRUS program. The version for that is 7.0. Being that Ewido was so... well designed and thought out AVG decided to up that Anti-Spyware program Version to 7.5  :)

David, I'm curious about your scan times. My full scan takes over an hour. The fast scan takes 30 minutes. About the same for both the now deleted Ewido 4.0, and the newly installed AVG 7.5. I normally run it without pausing the standard shield, but the times are virtually the same if I do. What's your secret?

Edit:

Using 11 gigs on a 60 gig hard drive. Like you, I don't sit in front of the computer waiting for it to finish, so it's no big deal. Just curious.

No secret but, you don't mention anything about your system spec., mine are nothing hot. I notice you have other security based software (Windows Defender) which is resident and I assume that you don't disable it either these could combine to effectively slow the scan duration. I never have any other resident security program running when I do a scan, this avoids potential conflict and duplication of scanning.

On an avast standard scan it scans about 6GB of data so I can only assume it is similar. With the ewido/avgas Fast scan as it doesn't mention GB of data scanned only the number of files/objects scanned so I don't have a direct comparison.

In total across two HDDs I have 23.91GB of data, my second drive is primarily for 'drive image' back-ups and daily data file back-ups. I have the drive image files excluded in avast anyway but not in ewido/avgas.

Having only 24gig to scan makes it easy to see why your scans take such a short time.
I start my scans when I'm ready to get off the computer that way I make sure things are done by the time
I return in the mornijng.
I have a little more stored on my system than you:  ;D ;D

D:     82.8 Gig

It is not I that has an issue about duration but OrangeCrate, whom I quoted, he only has 11GB on a 60 GB HDD, even less than mine yet his scans take 1hr (full) and 30 minutes (quick) scan.

I'm not boasting how quick my scan is, I merely compared two like scans with the different versions of ewido/avgas. I know how little data I have on my HDDs I have a lot in of-line storage, CD/DVD for little used stuff but, I have never said/boasted how quick my scan is.

David this has nothing to do with boasting. It simply points out
that the amount of data being scanned is relevant to the time a scan will take.
Nothing more and nothing less.  :)

It doesn't do anything to point out why OrangeCrate with only 11GB of data has a Full/Quick scan duration of 1hr/30mins respectively when I have more data yet it takes a fraction of the time his takes.

That and only that was the reason for mentioning the data on my HDD and my comments about multiple resident scanners (not being disabled) may effect/account for some of the duration problem and the discrepancy between our scan durations.

Not to mention none of this is helping to explain this apparent discrepancy OrangeCrate is having, not just with my scan but others with more data. So I don't intent to waste time with semantics, only trying if possible to explain what might cause this and hopefully see if it helps OrangeCrate.

I assume AVG wont concentrate on trojans like Ewido has, so is it dead now? Apart from that, I dont want any AVG software.

I dumped "Ewido" now and got a-squared, but are there any other good free (on demand) anti-trojans about?

I don't really like AVG products, they debate every time there is a major upgrade if they should offer a free version or not, in fact I wouldn't be suprised if they took away the free version of the antispyware product.

I tried a quick scan with both avast and Defender turned off. Still 30 minutes. I only have 384 meg of ram on this machine, so I tried a quick scan from safe mode. 37 minutes. Go figure.

I don't know what else to try, so, I think that I'll file this whole matter under "Questions I spent too much time on, that really didn't mean anything".

My thanks to you and the others for your comments.

That is an assumption that I wouldn't make in haste, they have already added some extra functionality to it so for now I have no reason to doubt their intentions. Otherwise I can't see any reason to buy ewido out if they were going to abandon development/detection, especially as there is also a paid for version. For the time being I will give them the benefit of the doubt.

I dumped "Ewido" now and got a-squared, but are there any other good free (on demand) anti-trojans about?
Now you won't be able to monitor if ewido a.k.a. avgas goes to hell in a hand basket or not.

Knocking one company while flying the banner of another isn't exactly my cup of tea.... :(
As David already mentioned, those remarks should only be made if you have facts to back them up. IMHO
