Task to do: Avast has to be uninstalled from an old PC.

Situation: PC only has a screen of 640x480 pixels in safe mode ...

Problem: you get three parameters to modify:

- an editable field to edit path to program install directory
- an editable field to edit path to data install directory
- a popup-menu to select avast version

at the upper right corner you see parts of a clickable "En" (it is only an "E" and a halfway cut "n") ... (its the language setting)

at the right edge of the screen there are two buttons at the right side of the two editable fields mentioned above, but you only see a small vertical stripe of it ... clicking on them gives the possibility to change the directory by path selection

there is nothing more that can be done or clicked on ... besides clicking "escape" to quit ...

Obviously what is needed to proceed is out of the visible part of the window - and there is no possibility to scroll (even not by moving the cursor) ...

Question: how to proceed? When pressing the "enter" key nothing happens ...

Hi,

Depending on the version of Windows and the actual monitor size, you can try to change the Screen Resolution/ Display settings.
Select a larger display resolution or decrease the scale size for text and apps to 100% or less.

Alternatively, you can try to Move the Avastclear app to the point where you can actually see the green Uninstall button at the bottom of the app.
Please follow these steps to move the app
1. Open the app in question (click on it if it is already open in the taskbar and make sure that it is minimized, otherwise, the Move option will not be available)
2. On you keyboard press "alt" + "the space bar"
3. A box will open - Select Move - you can use the arrow keys on your keyboard to move it

Sorry, this is all not working

a) in safe mode screen size is not changeable to something else than 640x480
b) avastclear opens with the welcome screen - there is nothing green to see
c) the avastclear window covers any kind of taskbar - when clicking alt-tab (to switch between apps) the taskbar is flashing for a short glimpse and is immediately covered again with the avast clear window (it is just observable that the only running program is avastclear)
d) the avastclear window does not seem have a (movable) edge or header
e) with alt-spc only the popup-menu entries for the version can be altered
f) clicking tab several times jumps from one alterable field to the next - it is impossible to see where it is if the field is out of the screen

Sorry, that's no solution ...

Hi,

All the suggestions I gave you, worked for me.
Please tell me which version of Windows and Avast do you have installed on your device.
Do you have more than one monitor?
What is the maximum resolution of the screen when not in safe mode?
What is the resolution of the screen currently set to when not in safe mode?
What is the size of text, apps etc. set to?
Please attach a screenshot of what you see on the screen when it in safe mode.
Please see this article on how to generate a screenshot (if need be). https://support.avast.com/en-ww/article/Create-screenshot

Windows XP SP3 & Avast 10.4.2233

Be aware: synaptic touch pad right edge scrolling is not working inside avast windows (but systemwide inside all other windows) ... that's an avast specific flaw

Do you have more than one monitor?
No
Quote
What is the maximum resolution of the screen when not in safe mode?
1024x768 (physical size - in XP bigger size is possible - then you only see the physical size and scrolling the mouse over the edges moves to the invisible areas)

1024x768

What is the size of text, apps etc. set to?
no change to default settings: Tahoma 8 Pt.

see pic - the window does not have a move possibility from the system

btw: as told: safe mode does only allow 640x480 (and nothing else; the screen settings list several bigger sizes - but none is usable:you can select them, but when clicking on apply or OK, nothing happens and the screen keeps 640x480)

Hi,

Try this on XP http://public.avast.com//supp/old_versions/Avast10.4.2233_A10R4_noSSE2/avastclear.exe
If it still does not work in safe mode then please try it in normal mode.

Not working ... both in safe mode and normal mode I get error:

"The installer cannot open the SFX archive 'C:\...\Avast10.4.2233_A10R4_noSSE2\avastclear.exe". (code 0x3ee)
It's probably caused by corrupted Avast installer thus please try to download the installer again.

Hi,

Please try to uninstall using control panel and manually delete any remaining Avast folders as mentioned here:https://support.avast.com/en-ww/article/94
On XP, instead of "C:\ProgramData\Avast Software" look in "C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\AVAST Software\"

There are more things different in Vista/XP/2k! Please provide appropriate Information!!

Btw: a side effect (I do not have any other explanation than the failed avastclear 10.4.2233) is that in BIOS system Clock is in year 2020, but OS always starts with an illegal time and you have to correct 100 years (the system date is set to 1920).
