Outlook 2k/2003 crashes with Outlook resident protection
« on: October 05, 2006, 06:55:42 PM »
Hello,
I've had users with Outlook 2000 and 2003 crash many times a day performing various functions.  We use Avast Pro on Windows XP and 2000.  Once I removed Outlook/Exchange resident protection (we do not use Exchange) the crashes stopped.     We've recently migrated from Notes to CommunigatePro.  How can I get the Outlook resident protection to stop crashing Outlook?
Thanks in advance.

Did you use any other antivirus in the past? Like AVG or Norton?

Please, check the avast plugin status:
Outlook 2003 > Help > About > Disabled items
Outlook 2000 > Tools menu > Options > Other > Advanced Options > Add-In Manager.

Hi, we used McAfee in the past.

The plug-in status of Outlook 2000 has the following with a check next to them: avast! 4,CommuniGate Pro Extension, Net Folders, Exchange Extensions property pages.

The Disabled Items on Outlook 2003 (before i removed the Outlook resident protection) is empty.
Thanks again.

Mcafee has a uninstall tool that you could run to ensure any possible remnants are removed.

Windows 10 Home 64bit/ Acer Aspire F15/ Intel Core i5 7200U 2.5GHz, 8GB DDR4 memory, 256GB SSD, 1TB HDD/ avast! free 24.2.6105 (build 24.2.8918.824) UI 1.0.799/ Firefox, uBlock Origin, uMatrix/ MailWasher Pro/ Avast! Mobile Security

just a little precision, i have to use exchange connection over http (owa). Maybe you'll be able to reproduce the problem?

I've been having this issue as well - it only seems to happen with IMAP/Exchange accounts though. Use a POP account and all appears to be fine....

So... does any of you guys have a crash dump file? Or at least some further information (e.g. an Event Log entry etc)?

Cheers

Hello all. I just starting using avast as well but  i do use exchange and my outlook freeze about every other time. I just turned logging up so we'll see what we can see. It apears to be ok after alowing outlook to boot once in safe mode then a few times after it will just hang logging in. I use to have avg and had no issues ever with that but heard avast is pretty great from a friend hum LOL
