I can't say for sure (since I've never heard of a similar issue), but my guess is that the problem is not in Windows, but rather in graphic adapter drivers. Maybe some features are initialized too late... or maybe then don't support the necessary graphics mode or operations... hard to say.

You may try to check if you are using the latest drivers, maybe "play" with the settings (though I somehow doubt it would help), or ask the support of the graphics adapter manufacturer (what manufacturer is that, btw?)
If you'll be trying this last option, I'd suggest to refer to Microsoft chkdsk problems (as it is a "standard tool"), not just avast!.
