Yes, MS have been dragging their heals over this from March 2004, I wouldn't be to surprised if they don't try to say well we have implemented what you wanted in Vista, a version without WMP for Europe. How about backing off on the fine.

MS had over two years to provide the data or see clarification as to just what was required before the EU hit them with the fine, so I can't see them backing off.

Actually, they jumped on the bandwagon after they saw how well it worked here.  ;D
Easy money for the states that sued as a reward for being successful. IMHO  :)

Once again I must defend MS (what is happening to me??)

I think it is crap to sue MS over WMP there is no reason they should not include it with windows, apple bundles quicktime and iTunes with OS X so if you are going to sue one sue both and at least make sense

I have to agree with Mac. No one makes you use WMP. I never do.

One reason I would like to see Microsoft sued over WMP is that some content such as live streaming media is sometimes only available with WMP & WMP isn't available for all OS.  This makes WMP a monopoly in these cases.  RealPlayer is available as a free download to all os that I know of.

CharleyO, you are forced to use WMP if the media you want to see &/or watch is only available via WMP.  I used to have Xandros Linux as a dual boot on my system, but WMP wasn't available for Linux so I had to switch os for my favorite streaming media.  I prefer Mepis Linux, Xandros wasn't as good as it was promoted to be.  Neither is Ubuntu.

Is Mepis usable from a CD without installing it like ubuntu?

Is it a Microsoft stream ? If not, why not ask the owner to use something else ?

Yes,  Mepis is usable from a CD without installing it.  I downloaded it from the Mepis website and burned as ISO image with CDBurnerXp Pro3, a free progam.  Easy to use & works great.

No, its not a Microsoft stream.  I was without success in getting JSM to stream it with RealPlayer.  There are a lot of stuff streamed in only WMP, I'm not alone when it comes to streams only by WMP.  There are a lot of people using Linux.  Linux is big in Europe.  What about the $100 laptops for children in third world countries?  It uses  Linux.

linux could have a microsoft WMP program if someone wanted to develop it. Microsoft dropped WMP support on the Mac and someone created a plugin for Quicktime called Flip4Mac to play WMP files
