VRDB
« on: January 23, 2004, 03:05:01 AM »
Hello,

I enabled VRDB on my computer and since it finished the system seems slow. I only have a 12 gb hard drive and very few programs loaded other than WIN XP. But , now my hard drive is showing as being half full. How big is the VRDB file typically? And is this file removed when AVAST!4 is removed? I do realize that the file size is dependant on what is on the computer...

Thanks

Awesome program by the way  ;D >

Look in C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4\Data\integ

You can disable VRDB by right clicking on the blue Avast ball.  But I wouldn't recommend that.  I've needed it's resources once in the past.

The VRDB database certainly shouldn't be the reason for a full disk. I think it shouldn't have more than 5MB on your computer, maybe less.

If you suddenly have less free space on your disk than you'd expect, you should look what takes up the space... check the sizes of the folders (first, in the root, then - when you find out the big ones, go inside of them... etc).

Thanks. I will look into the problem in other places. Just seems that this takes forever to run the VRDB and it keeps writing to the hard drive.

Yes, I did some checking and the .int file is only about 5 meg. Guess I need to save some money to get a bigger hard drive. Like I said not much loaded but the drive is half gone and the computer is running really slow. Think maybe I should re-format the drive and start over? When I first loaded up XP and the programs I used it ran reallly fast.

I have

AMD Athlon 2100+
MSI KT-2 motherboard
512 meg ddr 2100 ram
ATI Radeon 9000 pro video
Slow 12gb seagate hard drive

pcworks,

Will you do me a simple favor before running off to your local electronics store....
Run a Diskscan and Defrag first.
Boot sector errors can and will slow a computer down to the point of a freeze.
Depending on what you have been doing with the HD, and how many changes you have made to the system in general, can affect the HD "scatter".

Was your system running normally before Avast?

Thanks
