Warning evnt ID90
« on: October 30, 2006, 02:21:07 PM »
???  I have been having start up crash and blue screen problems and on looking in Event Viewer, it shows the following notes under Antivirus:-

ERROR - CatClient Event 90 - AAVM scanning error x AAVMcheck file Directx AV files scan realof D:\start exe failed ooooA474
                                        also

WARNING - Event ID 90 - Function setiface update package return code C000005

Can anyone explain what these mean and why they should cause my pc to crash at start up.  The System and Application folders in Event Viewer show they are not the problem.  A bit techie I know but I am hoping someone can help. MY OS is XP Home.

code C000005
Means access denied.
D:\start.exe is very strange... Is this a legit file? Couldn't it be a virus?
Did you schedule a boot time scanning with avast?
Do you have any other antivirus in this computer?

Many thanks for responding TECH.  It does not appear to be a virus but I did thought it could be something to do with the boot time scan so I disabled that function and I have not had either problem since.  However, in case it happens again, what exactly does 'Access denied ' mean ie what access was denied ?

PS Please accept my apologies for the delay in getting back to you.

Is there any file called D:\start.exe ?

avast boot time scanner could access the file due to lack of rights to do it. But it is strange as you're before windows load and the scanner should have full access to files...  ::)

Thanks again TECH.  The only thing I can think that D:\start.exe refers to is a game CD, which I may have left in the CDR at the time I booted up. I was having problems getting the game to load prior to this so I have uninstalled the game via Add/Remove and again I am no longer getting the warnings.

It seems that I should have tried self help before posting and I hope I have not wasted your time but I am grateful for you pointing me in the right direction.  Perhaps this may help others with the same problem.
