SITX files?
« on: November 01, 2006, 09:41:52 AM »
Hi malware fighters,

Does one have to use the stuffit expander to unpack sitx files? Can you use another compression program to unpack sitx extension files, and finally does avast scan inside sitx files?

The stuffit format is closed and proprietary, so you probably won't find many packers/unpackers other than StuffIt Expanded (even Apple itself doesn't have it, so - unless I'm mistaken - it's not supported by default in MacOS either).
avast! certainly doesn't scan this format, and I doubt it will.

Well, I just saw that (when I was replying to your post), but even if it works, it's probably only for .sit, not .sitx (don't know the real difference though ;)).

Igor is Correct. Apple does not support Stuffit files in the compression Utility in Mac OS X. Mac users have always had to download the stuffit expander

And as for the difference  StuffIt X (sitx) adds multiple compression algorithms and also added  several encryption options.
