Comodo Not Playing Nicely
« on: November 05, 2006, 04:46:44 AM »
I've just come from the Comodo forum & thought Avast folks should know the newly released CFW 2.3.6.81 has issues with Avast.

See: Desktop Security Products/Comodo Firewall/Help/Re: Anyone know what this is?

The thread is 6 pages long so far--the last page is most informative.

Very interesting thread.

Here's a link

http://forums.comodo.com/index.php/topic,3113.0.html

and a quote from page 6

"Yes to prevent COMODO PF from mucking up Avast! WebShield process you need COMODO PF to ‘Skip loopback(*) TCP connections’…

It looks like Lukor is already working with the Comodo developers.

Good to have the warning and great to know that the avast team are on it already.

This would hardly represent the first time that a firewall and avast have had a lttle disagreement.

The fireworks are usually over quite soon and rarely result in a "my antivirus or my firewalll" decision.

Now that I have gone through the Comodo forum thread I recall that this is an issue that has been outstanding for some time with Comodo personal firewall and is NOT a new issue between avast and Comodo.

The new information that has come forward is that the "Skip loopback TCP connections" option in the Comodo firewall apparently overcomes the problems that have affected the users of the avast Webshield as reported in these forums.  I cannot speak to what, if any, exposure selecting that option means to a Comodo firewall user.

I suspect that we will need to leave it to the technical folks of Alwil and Comodo working together to provide a final resolution.

I was just reading a thread on here... See: WebSheild bugs(?)
It looks like Alexo's problem was prior to the release of new CFW. There was some mention on the Comodo thread of the firewall developers being out of the country!  :P

Just read the Comodo Forum thread.  My Avast 4.7.892 Home and CPF are running just fine together.  Webshield is set to normal.  Both programs are configured with CPF Automatic Install/Avast default settings and have changed nothing regarding Skip Loopback TCP Connections.  Comodo Application Behavior Analysis enabled (default).  I have never seen the odd screen in question nor the gibberish pages they are discussing on the CFW thread.  Other security realtime is Sunbelt Counterspy and NOTHING else.  I use Firefox as of late, but didn't experience the said anomalies with IE6 either.  FYI, I'm on ATT DSL with 2Wire Modem/router.

Hello Guys,

I just had a conversation with a developer from Comodo team. They put some efforts into this issue with avast! WebShield and as it seems to me now that the future update of Comodo PF (which should be out soon, probably ver. 2.4) will contain a fix!  ;D

All of you who have spotted problems, please update as soon as the new version is available.
Thanks.

Lukas.

Tech the Comodo website now says 2.3.6(?). Yesterday it still showed as 2.3.4. I'm under the distinct impression there isn't a fix for Avast users.
