Hello. So the title pretty much summens up my question correctly. I am just wondering if it's possible to do that.

Hi, in short, yes. But you'll lose all active protection in Avast.

Thanks for the reply. I was asking because one of my friends wanted to have a second opinion scanner always installed and when he needed it he could enable the passive mode so i wondered if it will conflict.

Malwarebytes free, alternative use a online scanner (no install you just download a small client)

There are many second opinion scanners that you don't need to install. The 3 I use are Kaspersky Virus Removal Tool, AdwCleaner and Hitman Pro. Another good one is Emsisoft Emergency Kit.
