i've downloaded avast!4 home but everytime i try to open it i get a message saying error no. 1006 (000003EE) and the last operation tried to acess the self extract archive. i have no idea about computers and am trying very hard to supress the urge to hit it till it works. please help i would really appreciate it.

You mean - you've problems opening the setup program, or you've already installed the program and the installed thing doesn't open?

How do you run the program? Do you save it to the disk first, or run it immediately from the browser?

sorry about lack of info.

i've got windows xp and it wont let me run the setup program i've only got as far as the download and i tried to run it straight away

Maybe the downloaded file was somehow corrupted..?
Try re-downloading...

Yeah, Vlk is right, this {somewhat confusing} message means that the self-extracting exe is broken.

Please re-download.
