AVAST NEWS reporting new build available???
« on: January 29, 2004, 04:16:51 PM »
According to AVAST NEWS there is a new build of AVAST 4.1 but when I try and update the program it still says I'm up to date.  Can anyone confirm or deny this as being true and if so when will it be available? Thanks again in advance.

Yeah..., to be frank, the iNews were leaked a bit earlier than we meant (with the VPS update).

The program update will be posted in about 2 hours... ;)

If you check the iNews (came with latest definitons, this morning Eastern time), that lists the changes, mostly bug fixes.  The only one I remember that affects me directly was fixing the problem with outgoing Eudora mail, but there were quite a few others.

One of these years maybe we'll let the team take a quick break for a nap -- if, of course, a majority of forum members agree.   ;)

Cool... except for the upcoming releases of avast network edition, BART 2.0, and a couple of other new products that I can't talk about yet... :)

Well, the new program update is out, folks  ;D

Please note that the *.exe files are still in the process of uploading (and will be for some time). The incremental update should work without problems right now!

Enjoy

So it looks like the speed problem when shutting down was fixed in this new build? I haven't tried it on my PC, but my wifes shut down in like 5 seconds with all avast services running!

I did a manual update about an hour ago, and got several error messages (I forget which error), but eventually it presumably finished OK since I got the update summary window and was asked to reboot.   That was probably from hunting for server(s) which already had the new files, plus of course congestion with everyone wanting them.  I presume avast would have clearly let me known if it had to give up with only some of the files downloaded.

It was interesting that I went through the same rotation-through-servers for each file involved.  That could mean a couple of different things -- possibly once you've started a given update, it always starts with the same server for each file, rather than with the latest successful one.  Or it could be that the files were being uploaded in different sequences to each server, so that I happened to hit a time when it had to go to a different server for each file.

And thanks again to the whole team (and mods), of course.

what is new in this program update?

perhaps most important is that backup utilizing volume shadow copy now should work.

Downloaded and installed the new build with absolutely no problems. Ran the mail wizard and Eudora now checks incoming and outgoing mail :). Great job responding to a problem. You folks are to be congratulated.
