ashMaiSv.exe changed
« on: January 29, 2004, 09:19:28 PM »
Yesterday I was told by ZoneAlarm that ashMaiSv.exe wanted 'net access and that it had changed, I checked this site and it doesn't mention that this component should need access. The components ZoneAlarm has listed as having asked previously for access are:

avast! antivirus service (ashServ.exe)
avast! e-Mail Scanner Service (ashMaiSv.exe)
avast.setup

The version of ashMaiSv is 4, 1, 334, 0

It asked for access a considerable time after I had updated, shouldn't it have asked for access the next reboot after updating?

no this is normal.   the program updates itself and tries to regain access to the net.  when the program was updated your firewall notice that the version of it was different giving you that  alert

tell it to allow it.

What I found puzzling is that nowhere does it say that ashMaiSv.exe needs access and the component requested access quite a while after I updated and not after my next reboot, I'm sure it was even after two reboots. Can you explain this?

That's right, ashMaiSv is the mail proxy, i.e. the mini-SMTP/POP/IMAP server used by the Internet Mail provider.
