Script Blocking
« on: November 10, 2006, 02:08:30 AM »
Hello,

I have the Pro Version of avast!. I also have Spy Sweeper. When I start a Spy Sweeper scan the avast! script blocker pops up. Is there a way I can disable script blocking for certain programs? I see there is a custom level but I don't see an option for disabling blocking for trusted applications like Spy Sweeper.

Thanks

Well, Script Blocker does only work with browsers...
Are we talking about the same provider?

I assume you mean ISP, I only use one Internet Service Provider.. When I start Spy Sweeper, an antispyware program by Webroot, the "avast! script blocker" box pops up for about a second. I don't know if Spy Sweeper has some type of browser integration or something but that's what happens.

Thanks

Well, lol, I don't know about providers or modules... What I do know is that when I start Spy Sweeper the "avast! script blocker" box pops up for about a second and I'm not sure why. The "avast! script blocker" box also pops up when I start up IE which makes sense to me. For what it's worth it does NOT pop up when I start Firefox 2.0.. I have all the latest updates for both programs and I use the Pro (paid for) version of avast! and the paid version of Spy Sweeper as well.

Provider/module is script blocking, standard shield etc.

Isn't firefox a mozilla product?, see Tech's post.

I understand what a provider is - Web Shield, Standard Shield, Script Blocking, P2P Shield etc etc..

In my original post I clearly stated "When I start a Spy Sweeper scan the avast! script blocker pops up" so I'm suprised that there could be any confusion about which provider I was referring to.

I understand that the script blocker provider only works with browsers which is why I asked my original question - WHY does script blocker pop up when I start Spy Sweeper? Spy Sweeper is not a browser, it is an anti spyware program.

If anyone knows why this occurs please let me know.

Thanks!

Soory about the confusion. I suppose it started when you assumed Tech was talking about an isp and not the script blocking provider.

and this

Well, lol, I don't know about providers or modules...

Now that that is clear, ;D  on to your question about spy Sweeper. I don't know much about the program. Perhaps you are right quessing that it has browser intergration. What I do know about Script Blocker is, it supports the web browsers listed. It will also scan when media player is opened, however I don't get, or at least I never see, the pop up you mention.

Surely there must be other users of spy sweeper on this forum who can help????

Acually yes, I have the same pop up when running a scan in Spy Sweeper. I thought nothing of it but i did always wonder if the SCRIPT BLOCKER was taking away some of the Spy Sweepers abilities when running a scan.

Script Blocker is just a script scanning module... it shouldn't interfere in other applications like Spy Sweeper. Well... as further I can imagine...
