Avast home edition 4.7 could not detect svch0st.exe. however NOD 32 has detected and deleted the svch0st.exe. Can anyone tell me when will avast upgrade its virus database.

Hi Prashant,

You will need to submit the file, and preferably also the virus installation file, to:

virus@avast.com

Zip the file with a password and mention the password in your email.

It is a system file. However, that doesn't stop some malware from trying to "impersonate" it.

It is not a system file. Observe the fith character carefully:

svch0st.exe

It is a zero not an o.

You should note the spelling of the file name mentioned the o is replaced by a zero 0 as in svch0st.exe a subtle difference but an important one. Also, whilst not mentioned here, the location is also important as even if spelt correctly it has to be in the correct location to be a system file (and that depends on your OS).

I mean the real svchost is a system file, hence why BJ might see them on his pc.   :D

Of course svch0st.exe is a nasty. There is alot of google results for that.
